I have a level 86 necromancer that I waste way to much time on, in a game called diablo II by Blizzard. My son and daughter both played it when it came out and got me started. Now they are done with it and I continue. So Im the dad/kid of the house. LoL I also played and loved a game called Daggerfall by Bethesda.

But don't think that is all I do or I wouldn't be here. I also play SPWAW month after month. My latest campaign was as a russian. Boy gotta love those KV I tanks which they had from the very start of Barbarossa.

I also play War in Russia, and a few misc other titles which change from time to time.

So what do you play most specifically, or all wargames? LoL

I started with Gettysberg 65' with the squares not hex's, then came Tactics II, and the rest of the 60's AH board games. My brother and I were crazy about them.

hey i'm surprised you managed to get your necro to such a high level
when i took one in D2 i could not get past Mephisto he just kicked my ***:(

still my assassin did much better but still not to your dizzy heights

Daggerfall ....i cannot believe that there is more than just me who played that game till my eyes went square it was cool:D

as for SPWAW i've not long downloaded it and at the moment am finding it a bit tough but when compared to the original a massive improvement:)
(word of warning though watch out for those panthers cos they kick ***);)

my first wargame was a pen and paper American civil war game, from there i graduated to table top gaming with such cool games as Firefly WW2 and the like and eventualy did what most kids dream of and went to work for a wargaming company(Games Workshop) though you might not of heard of them.

Hasbro!

Post by John David »

Sarge,

Your take on Hasbro was right on. e
They have bought out so many companies and turned their products into crap!

TSR was bought by Wizards Of The Coast, the developer of the original and best CCG game, Magic: The Gathering, which is one of the greatest games ever created!

Then Hasbro bought WoTC a few years ago and have turned that once great company into a shadow of it's former self.

hasbro also bought out MicroPose which was also a great company. They fired everyone and killed the company!

Everything Hasbro touches turns to crap!

I could go on and on, but frankly, I don't want to give them anymore run.

THIS is why I love companies like Matrix and want to see them prosper.

More Matrix like companies, less corporate a-holes like Hasblow... 'er Hasbro

Hello All,

First post: be gentle with me.

I started with Tactics II in '78 and I quickly moved on to more "advanced" titles from AH, SPI and TSR. Matrix has been the best thing to come along for wargamers since the Pentium chip, and I can't wait for Uncommon Valor and the War in the Pacific overhaul. I have played the original "Pac War" (and the latest versions) countless times.

Thanks to all for all the great info. and good humor.

If you think 6 years is a long time, you won't believe how long it has been since I played a board game with friends. I believe it was back in 76' when a small group of us got together and played Blitzkrieg by AH. The pizza had to much cheese on it as I recall. LoL

My last human opponent on the computer was a hotseat game of Panzer General with my son 2 years ago. We found out the polish won most everytime. You won as the german only against the AI.

So I've been playing solitaire, and computer AI's pretty much for a quarter of a century.

I'm not sure I even know how to play a real flesh and blood person. LoL I think computers make us lazy. We turn em on, and turn em off, and don't have to schedual a mutual time, or go through any human emotions or hassles. Of course the comp is a lot colder and more abstact than a human.

I don't know why Avolon Hill didn't make it in the computer game market. Maybe they were so successfull with board games they had trouble switching over.

I think War Games may die out given enough time. My kids are like most in that they play mostly non matrix style games. I think we may go the way of the dinasaur, but hope not.
Actually, the killing blow to Avalon Hills was the Civilization license. They sold the license to Microprose and then went ahead and then made their own computer game with the same name. Microprose sued and AH lost big time(of course) and in fact lost just about everything. Those are the facts.

All the kids I know seem to really like complex games and can handle Chess, Squad leader, cosmic encounters, Titan, Blitzkrieg, Mythos, and many others. I think the main problem is that they are not offered intelligent games. Think of all the crappy games available (I won't name names). Who wants to play them? Not me. Its a lot like the music industry. I don't care how popular N'sync gets. I'm not buying their CD. End of Story.
