Grymme,

First off let me say "great scenario". I have really been enjoying it. Definetely gives the feel of the period. I can't wait for your next one. I do have a couple of comments.

1. This is not a big deal and anyone can do it. If you go to settings/Rulevars/Movement types & Ranges/Rulevars 302 and change the "Highlighted hex color to black (1) then when you select a unit to move the highlighted area showing the movement range will be a dark color which is easier to see on the white hexes.

2. I can't seem to kill mercenaries with infantry. It does not matter the odds. I tried a test where I had 1 mercenary and 100 infantry and the infantry did not appear to score a single hit. Am I missing something? I am seeing small numbers of mercenaries holding out against overwhelming odds again and again. Thanks

Cbelva. Thanks for the praise. Have you been playing it PBEM or against AI? As which power? And how did it go? Always interested in how plays of my scenarios go for balancing purposes.

1. can fix imediatly.

2. i know what the trouble is. To make the mercenaries desert event work i made mercenaries a separate SFT group. I guess that might make them invulnerable since no other sft knows how to fight them (except possibly other mercenaries). I will try and fix it, for now dont play with mercenaries.

Also i think the manpower gains might be too big. My manpowerpool just keep increasing even though im recruiting as hell in my AAR.

And i also think that skirmishers are to weak. They havent been able to kill anything in my game.

I made the following changes to the scenario

1. Changed issue with not showing movement ranges.
2. Gave everything except personas and ships a fighting value against mercenaries.
3. Changed Rome and Carthage VP from 30 to 20.
4. Beefed up Skirmishers artillery power from 10 to 20.
5. Changed hemiola group to a group that other units can fight against (they also were probably unkillable)
6) made sea storms more dangerous.
7) updated briefing.

Will upload within half an hour.

Grymme,

Thanks for the quick response. I will download the new update and give it a whirl. I was playing against the AI as the Romans with the skirmishers off.

Excellent scenario Grymme. The look and feel of it is just right in my opinion. I'm looking forward to 2nd Punic War.

After playing some games vs. AI as Romans I have a few things to report.

1) In my first game about round 6 I was suddenly given 1000 PP .  I don't think this was intended and may be a bug but I did not make a save because I thought auto-save was on, but it was not and I quit the game.  I am sorry. I think this happened after 2 turns of political unrest so maybe related.

2) Syracuse makes aggressive landings on my shores but they always bring an army of only 1 single unit. The armies are too weak to do anything. Are these intended as scouts for the AI, or should they be fielding bigger armies?

Thank you!

Thanks. Looking into your issue, but havent found any errors yet (but im sure there is)

Hmm.. dont know why you got 1000 PP. Did you get any message that round? Another way would have been to just keep playing and not spend those 1000PPs. :)

AI is better at certain things than other. The bigger difference between the normal game and the scenario the wierder the AI behaviour can potentially behave. But Syracuse was pretty irrational and at most a minor nuiscance in the reall war as well. If you are playing against a human he can always controll Syracuse as well since they are allied anyway.

Any suggestions on improving the scenario is always welcomed. Have stopped working on the 2nd Punic War for now. Might continue some time in the future.

Thanks for the response Grymme.

I've progressed further into the scenario and am enjoying it very much. As I'm still very unfamiliar with AT I'm taking my time and experimenting.

One very minor suggestion I can make now is that some units do not have text descriptions in their information box. I would be happy to put those in myself if I was to learn how in the editor and if you welcomed such a thing.

Also I know you are busy with other projects but if work progresses on the 2nd Punic War perhaps I could assist in some way. I would be happy to help when / if the need arises.

Happy you like it. I should that the scenario changes a lot of the basic rules of the game (such as stacking limits) so i am not sure the Punic War is the right scenario to learn all of the basics, but glad you enjoy it nevertheless. How is it going?

Thanks for the offer. Yeah the SFTs could use some texts. You are welcome to put them in there if you want and email me them, and then ill upload it. Or to post the descriptions in this thread.

The SFT texts are under SFTs/Statictics2 in the editor.

As for the Punic War mod i guess it was just lack of inspiration that killed the progress. I kind of have an habit of starting things i dont finish. Also i wanted to include greece in the map, but it wasnt so easy.

Some of the unfinished projects (a little of topic) i have as of now are

- Boer War (map started)
- Operation Garbo (map started)
- Guadalcanal (80 % finished)
- Battle for Hue (80 % finished)
- Horus Heresey (map & counters started)
- 2nd Punic War (map finished, some units placed, masterfile created)
- Sparta vs Athen (map finished)
- LOTR (95 % finished, just some nice events needed, but playable People play it occasionally)
- Invasion America (map started)
- Battle for Jutland (german units placed)
- Korean War (95-95 % finished, just some events needed)
- 2 other projects for the next release that i cant discuss.

Yes it is probably not the best for learning but for me the flexibility of the game system allows me to play the game however I like and focus on different time periods than typical WW2 etc...

Impressive project list Grymme. Very interesting choices.

I would like to create a scenario for the Mongol conquests if I can find the time & skill to make it happen.
Sengoku Jidai is also high on my list so I hope the author of the current project comes back some day, but if not maybe I will try it myself, but it's still much to early to say.

LOL. Would have been significantly more interesting of those projects had been finished.

But there are some really excellent wwII scenarios also. And the WWI scenario is great. One of the most fun games ive had with AT was a game playing Turkey in WWI.

If you want to start a little with the editor a walkthrough of creating the netherlands scenario in "scenariocreating 101" in the mod section is very helpfull.

Thanks Grymme. I'm gathering source material now for probably a small Mongol scenario. We'll see what happens.

Cool, let the forum know if you need any help in the editor.

Here are some links to boardgames regarding mongols for inspiration. Some of the games have maps, interesting counters and rules for inspiration.

Screenshot shows one set of counters. (i think there probably nicer sets out there). To use them cut out one counter. See if it can fit within a roughly 40*40 pixel area. And fill all surrounding areas to the main figure with pink (which ingame will be invisible).

Actually the game "the devils horseman" has the nicest counterset. Its the same developers that i used for the original "punic war" scenario.

You really should check it out. It has some battlemaps also.

Lol. I spend a lot of time with AT. But the game has been in the shelves for almost 2 years. I do a lot of modding while watching TV.

Actually what would be fun would be to do an cooperative mod. Or to have someone help me. (off course that scenario would be readily available).

For example

1 player does map
1 player makes custom graphics
1 player does SFTs
1 player does units on map
1 player programs events
1 player coordinates, makes regimes, research

It could be cool. Me and another swedish guy was considering cooperating on the Guadalcanal- scenario a long time ago, but it never took of.

This is way off topic. But what the heck, its my thread :)

I would be happy to work cooperative on Sparta vs Athens, 2nd Punic War, or some other new project?
I will still work on a Mongols scenario in my spare time or could work cooperative on Mongols too.
