I agree with vettim89 regarding a2a losses, I have run the Coral Sea battle half a dozen times now and just about everything gets through the CAP, on either side......will need to be looked at in the first patch in my opinion.

Unescorted bombers get murderised by CAP it seems to me. Kates can get shot down in flames en masse at times. You still get a few bleeders though - I assume this is working as intended.

I think torpedoes are a bit less accurate too, least so I assume - quite a lot seem to attack 'from ahead' or 'from astern' and surely it's almost impossible to hit with a torpedo bow-on... certainly I've never seen it happen. So a fair few attack runs are going to be fails before the AA guns even start firing now.

The raid mechanic seems to limit strike package size as well. I've only seen small CV TFs at it though, I'm not sure how a Death Star would fare. Badly, I hope.

If I recall correctly IJN torpedo bomber tactics were to have a 3 plane section attack from the bow and side at the same time. Giving the captain of the ship being attacked with very few options on maneuver.

I don't know about that but I have seen some 'attacks from both sides' I think.

Divebombers seem to get the full attention of all flak, unlike torpedo bombers.

Thanks for the very atmospheric AAR's Grotius and the rest of the contributors to this thread.
I love the extra details on the combat reports too.

Grotius, how did you get that font?
Cantona, I added the -altFont command-line switch to the "quick start" shortcut, and I now run the game using that shortcut (rather than the shortcut that installed on my desktop by default). I also use -deepColor and -dual and -fd. From the 'what's new' file:
There are a number of command line switches that may be useful to players. To use these, Right
click to edit the Properties on the “Quick Start” shortcut to the game (located in your Start Menu
folder for War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition). You’ll want to add these to the end of the
“Target” field to get them to work
-dual : Enables better support for processors with more than one core (i.e. Intel Core 2 Duo)
-colorBlind : Support for color blindness
-deepColor : Enables 32 bit color
-altFont : Enables alternate in-game font (Lucida Sans Unicode)
-w : Windowed mode
-wd : Windowed mode, daily autosaves
-ww : Windowed mode, weekly autosaves
-fd : Full screen, daily autosaves
-fw : Full screen, weekly autosaves
-r : Show Roads
-autosave : Daily autosave

I let the AI play both sides of the Coral Sea scenario, and the Lexington was sunk and the Japanese got a decisive victory after capturing Port Moresby.I had it set on easy, and I suspect that this made it easy only for the Japanese. I started it again and it is not done yet, but the Allies seem to be doing a lot better.

Great AAR Grotius!

I'm currently involved in getting the japs off the Aleutians for starters, I'm amazed at the added detail, especially the plethora of logs in the save directory, which is brilliant since it saves me lots of work for AARs, hehe. Kiska fell last night, and Attu is the next. My pilot's fatigue level is yo-yoing like crazy though, I should probably RTFM before I start a game, oh well. I'm waiting for the printed manual though, hehe. Especially since I confused xAPs with APAs and was waiting ages for the supplies to unload at Kiska. :P

In the on-screen messages I did find a few odd things, like bombardment missions sinking jap aircraft carriers while shelling the beach? I need to look at the OP text files, maybe I can see those messages there, too. They flashed past real quick so I'm not sure if its a bug or just an enthusiastic gun crew report.
