Thanks John. I will test it out too. May need a house rule if it is not fixed.

Interesting. From some of the pre-release threads, I understood that you were specifically not supposed to be able to switch them once formed.

I've switched them on the fly as well. Comes in handy when a Transport TF refuses to unload that last damaged recon vehicle even though it previously unloaded a dozen of them.

I'd be interested in knowing how this was done. It should not be possible and is a bug. A save would be great.

Sorry, no save. It was a couple of weeks ago.

I thought all I did was change the mission type from Transport to Amphibious but now you've got me wondering. I might have created a new Amphib TF and transferred the ship over. Maybe it was allowed because it was virtually empty. All that was left on the ship was one damaged support vehicle. Made the change and then it finally unloaded that last bit that was stuck for a few turns.

I'll make sure to get a save for you if I run into this again.

Yup, that's the hole. I'll plug it.

Thanks, won't need a save.

Don,

I can take a Transport TF and click on the "change mission" button and convert it to an amphibious TF while it's loaded, as long as it doesn't have ships in it that are prohibited from being in an Amphib TF (tankers for example).  I think some AK's aren't allowed in the Amphib TF so if they're in the Transport TF it won't change over.

I can also make a new Amphibious TF and move Transport TF ships into it while loaded.

While I do like the realism with the new loading/unloading routines (currently Noumea has about 50 ships trying to unload in the harbor, and waiting their turn at the level 3 dock), there needs to be more information on what a "large item" is so we'll know what will and won't unload at a small harbor.  So far I've seen 5" CD guns, 155mm guns, 75mm guns, engineer and combat vehicles all have trouble unloading at small ports.

Whether intended or not, I find myself using amphibious transport almost exclusively. The exception would be when I am moving a large unit, say a division, between two major ports. The converstion to strategic mode, and the resultant loss of options (for example, changing destination while enroute to a smaller port) makes the transport option frequently less than desirable.

I agree, it seems easier to use Amphibious, with a quicker unload, even though it uses more hull space. Am I missing something?

According to the manual units are more subject to damage in Amphibious mode.

I figure it comes down to this: Does the port have the docking facilities for unloading troops? If it's too small for that then I use Amphib.

I can understand, albeit with extreme prejudice, why the enemy won't let me use the docking facilities when I invade his ports. :)

It is a bit rude of them.

Methinks that's gonna be a task for the editor divers and spreadsheet makers. And a needed one at that.
