"Fishnet" Sports?

Post by moore4807 »

LOL!

Fantasy baseball is essentially picking singular players from league teams & using thier performance (hitter stats & pitching stats) for your team against others in a fantasy league (usually 10 -12 teams per fantasy league) also American football, hockey have fantasy leagues too.

Check out Yahoo's site -they offer free fantasy leagues to play in...thats "Online Fantasy Baseball"... :)

I like Raverdave's version much better.:D Baseball is so boring now that the leagues are financially shot to hell.

Fantasy baseball

"I have this mental picture of girls playing baseball dressed in leather and fishnet stockings with whips, is this right? Or is it more closer to baseball played with swords and magic?????? "
Raverdave

Oh you twisted fellow. Now I will never be able to watch baseball again without that picture popping into my head.
(can you imagine attendance numbers even for last place teams)?
Fantasy baseball sites
AOL, Yahoo, Smallworld (now Sporting News) Sandbox.

of my 28 teams last year
18 1st place 8 2nd place and 2 near the bottom (both were dead team pickups in keeper leagues they both have winning records so far this year)

Ron the point of the post was to show how much I have cut back on my normal activity to make time for UV. It's not my fault there are only 24 hours in a day. (and as someone once pointed out to me 24 bottles of beer in a case..... coincidence?)

OK, I have avoided posting and voicing my anticipation of UV, but I can't stand it any more. Ever since I bought "France 1940" almost 30 years ago I have been an avid gamer. Now, UV appears to be the bast thing a true wargamer could want in a computer game. I am also amazed at Matrix Games and their playtesters for putting out so much information on the subject. Being involved in software development myself, I know how tough a schedule can be to keep. I also know how many decisions are made and corners cut in the interest of making a deadline. So, I say to Matrix, good show in not making a promise you couldn't keep. I know you had the best interests of the product in mind by doing so, and not the best business interest. As for me, I have already registered on your purchasing site and will buy this game within hours of the "Buy It" icon appearing! I can't wait!!!!!!

I still have BON on my hard drive must be 2 days since my last battle. This is another game where a group of us set up a campaign and traced movements on a map and then resolve the battles using the game. (but you have to hotseat) (adding or subtracting exp and morale to the units depending on prior results) the paper work filled up several notebooks and the battles sometimes took longer to set up then to fight. This is a game that if it was updated to present computer standards would do well with Grognards. (along with all the SSI Civil War battle games)(the source for my internet system idea) Of course the problem is the limited number of Grognards. You can't manufacture new Grognards with marketing. Grognards are born like that but I think they stay in the market longer then other types of gamers.
(
I saw on a message board a couple of years ago now that the original source code for Battles of Napoleon was irretrievably lost! A lot of people truly liked that game and wondered why nothing more was ever done with it. We found out.

Cheers, Rob.

Hello...

I agree, many older computer games are better than some of the newer ones. That may be because in the older games, game play was the main thing upon which the programmer worked. The user-interface and graphics/sound were made secondary by hardware and operating system limitation considerations.

Once computers became very fast and Windows allowed for virtually unlimited memory, sound, music and spiffy graphics became a prerequisite for a successful game. The programming time spend on these had to come from somewhere. As a result, game play code was neglected.

We tried, and we hope succeeded, in balancing game play, user-interface and sound/graphics in Uncommon Valor. Gary programmed the game play portion of the product, I the user-interface and Keith the graphics/animation/sound routines. That way, we had equal emphasis on all three areas of importance and adequate programmer hours to accomplish all three.

Hope You Enjoy the game...

How the system would work

Online the host maintains a map. And tracks movements
When the required number of players had signed up the game would begin.
Each player would be given command of part of his sides army.
Each player would move their force on the large map
Each player has the tactical resolution program on their computer.
When two (or more) opposing forces encountered each other on the map the computers involved would switch to a tactical display and they would conduct the battle....
Whoa...! Mogami, my friend, I was discussing a very similar concept with a friend a couple of years ago. I furthered the idea by allowing players to choose their level of involvement: some folks want to run a squadron of a/c or an air wing on a CV, some a flotilla, some an LCU (perhaps a division down to a regiment, even a brigade?). They could control as large a force as they wanted, but would only have an equitable level of information and control. Sky's the limit. Each player may can give -- and receive -- orders based on their combat situation and level of responsibility.

And, like you, saw LOTS of programming there, but could never get a bite from the game programmers I knew. Whatever.

Interesting, anyway...

I wonder why you have waited 10 years more than the rest of us? I played this type of game back in the early 90's. Ofcourse, this game rocks SO much more then its precessors, but still....

Vils........I've played every game available on the subject of the Solomons Campaign since I started gaming in 1970 - both computer and otherwise. My point is that this one is worth waiting for, unlike all the others - none came close to the level of detail or realism I want. I believe this one will!

Waiting.....

Post by IanLister »

I pre-ordered mine what seems like 10 years ago from Duchet Computers in England (one of the Matrix dealers). I expect I'll have to wait for them to get it, then the postman will not deliver it 'cos I'm at work........or he'll do what our local parcel delivery folk did the other week and just shove it through the door, whereupon my 2 puppies will rip it to bits, like they did with £100 worth of clothes my wife mail ordered not long ago! Come to think of it, if I keep worrying like this I'll go insane so I'll just forget all about it............as if!!!!!
