It seems that it is possible if you use one of these work arounds where you purposely create fragments and then disband them. But rather than institutionalizing this behavior, I would rather advocate for a reduction of the group reform time, and then maybe prevent the fragment work around thingy. I doubt the fragment thingy is an intention of the design.

I agree with this; and I don't know what to call the fragment work around thingy, but that's what I used in WITP. Couple that with a "bomb the Chinese" training program, or an empty base if you really want to game the system, and you can create an unlimited supply of good pilots. Probably not what the designers intended!

By quick disband/reform/train, the supply of pilots is much more limited, and will force you eventually into a choice of training pilots more, or putting them in combat, kind of like history.

Is there a way to send trained pilots into other groups without loosing the group for several months?

No, right?

This would be great - especially as you are in a position that such a suggestion might be heared [;)]

I strongly support this idea as well.

Me three... it would take away some of the gameyness. By nature, we want to optimize processess, but if this were done, there would be a real alternative to the use of fragments to keep airgroups in the front lines. I. for one, would go for it, if the time to get the unit back was 30 days.

1. 30 day return on disband to pool
2. No experience loss for disband to pool
3. Eliminate fragment manipulation
4. Fix training -- went from possibly to fast to way too slow. Need a happy medium.

So far, I'm using the "pure" mogami method. But that is because I don't have many depleted units (yet). Once some on map (fighter) units get to about 1/3rd strength, I'll just pull them off the line, switch them back to Nates, fill them up and start on map training that's what I did in stock - resulted in about 2-3 month training cycle. Also, I'm trying to advocate for a reduction of the 120 day penalty down to 30 days. I can't think of any reason why it would take more than 30 days to cut some orders to form a unit and pull the cadre together.

Amen to that paragraph [&o] Now lets just get it done! [:D]

And I would also like to have the options to train pilots in defensive skills. These skills are very important, but training of those are indirect. and gains of def. exp in battles are almost non existant...

Once I've trained up a unit on primary skills, I shift the unit to "general" training and then it can train up on other skills, like defense.

I wouldn't mind having some way of improving the skills (i.e. continuing the training of) the pilots that are sitting around AFTEr they complete their one year course. What about some "advanced" training?

Joe, have you tried this with either the public beta or patch 1, and if so do you really see much in the way of defense skill increase?

Joe, I just ran a quick test, head-to-head, current patch, one 3-day turn sequence. I used the three IMAF Nate units in Manchuria, moved them to harbin and pulled in pilots from the pool so they were each 16 pilots big (although at most 12 will fly). Set to 100% general training. At the end of three days, no increases in any pilot's defensive skill. For that matter, no increase in any skill, period - no green or yellow. (General experience on a couple of pilots did bump up slightly.)

Either I'm doing something wrong or things have change drastically since the initial release.

Here's an example of the three units. Skills are generally in the toilet yet not a single one improved in three days training.

Yeah, I'm still on 1080. Us software guys don't much like to upgrade "mid-game". [:D]

So is this working as intended or not? If it is working as intended in the new patch, is there anyway to downgrade to earlier versions of this game? This, in a short time, will turn into a game killer and I dread to think of restarting a PBEM again after making it to March the first time and close to May in my current game.

That would explain it [8|] The rest of us poor slobs are trying to explain to our 1.084 pilots that you go the runway in the long direction. [X(]

Sure, just reinstall into a new folder and then delete the other folder (or not).

I for instance usually have about 5-7 folders of AE going for the various versions I need to have to test (as well as play).

Awesome - thanks Joe!

I would guess this will keep the database changes though from the latest patch?

Do you know if pilot training, skill increases from combat are being looked at for a future patch?
