Pensacola - the cowardly cruiser!

RE: Pensacola - the cowardly cruiser!
In my case, I had Yamato, Mutsu, 5 CA, 4CL, and at least 6 DD engage four enemy amphib TFs at Lunga. Mikawa was in command (not the best, but not the worst, either). The Allied TFs were escorted by a few DDs and 1 CL that an IJN sub had torpedoed already. The preponderance of metal in the hex dramatically favored the IJN.
I tried setting Lunga as homeport and played around with reaction distances. Routing was Direct and threat tolerance was Absolute. Nothing worked, both TFs sought to disengage in at least 5 re-plays of the turn. I didn't try bombardment, but assumed a bombardment TF encountering hostiles would be more likely to disengage, not less.
I believe this is a bug involving multiple TFs in the hex. I urge you to send in a save.
PS Two days later, when 3 Allied TFs had withdrawn and only one was still unloading, Tanaka engaged them with the 4 Kongo class BBs and assorted cruisers and sank all five enemy vessels. Yes, Tanaka is more aggressive, but I believe the reason he engaged and Mikawa sought to flee has to do with the multiple enemy TFs in the hex at the time.

Dude, I was only joking (hopefully obviously).ORIGINAL: Knavey
That was a yellow flag if I ever saw one in a set of combat reports!
I see you are from Tampa, but are ready to put the yellow flag on my beloved Pensacola. Sigh .. I am depressed .. you must have gone to Hillsborough, or Jefferson, or maybe Leto.
Florida does not wave the yellow flag. Small, but staunch and forthright, she follows in the footsteps of Perry, Smith and Flagler.

Lol JWE,
You got it...was a Dragon. Feinder was one also. Seeing as you named those and not some of the more recent schools, you probably were Plant (1st guess since those are big Plant rivals), Chamberlin, Gaither or Robinson and will throw King in there for good measure.
I actually like the Pensacola area, great diving up there. Want to get up there and do the Oriskany but just can never get that worked out.

Bless you, my son, and Feinder too. It was back in the early 60's, and I was such a pissant my parents sent me off to the Bolles School (a private military and penal school) in Jacksonville. But lived in Palma Ciea, on Sunset Drive, off Howard, by the golf course, so I guess I'm a Plant Panther. All my buds went to Plant and so did all my sweeties. Had some friends from Robinson. Damn ... it's been so long since I heard of the Dragons ... Jefferson?? God, these threads are great! Happy days, Knavey!ORIGINAL: Knavey

We were one block north of Kennedy (North A St) between Armenia and MacDill so you were a little farther south than us. What about Jr. High? Wilson was where we both went. Fuzzy on where all the Jr. High schools were though.

Went to Grady Elementary, and Wilson Jr. High (Bulldogs!). Back when, at Wilson, Coach Sherill was athletic director, and Coach Stokes was football coach. That would have been .. shoot .. what, '63, '64? Yeah, I'm just a Palma Ciea puke.ORIGINAL: Knavey

RE: Pensacola - the cowardly cruiser!
Could it also be due to low night exp of the ship? 35 is almost incompetant in game ratings from my experiences.

Little before my time...I would have been there in 82-84 and Steve (Feinder) was a couple of years behind me. Don't recognize those names...Figarotta and Harrison were the coaches at Wilson when I was there. Mitchell was where we went to elementary school. Isn't it funny how you can remember stuff like that!

You had an IJN VADM in command of Pensacola? How'd you do that? [:D]

RE: Pensacola - the cowardly cruiser!
My one and only engagement using Pensacola was a doozy.
She went down, but she probably took 2 Jap heavy cruisers and a destroyer with her.
Day Time Surface Combat, near Port Moresby at 98,130, Range 24,000 Yards
Japanese Ships
CA Aoba, Shell hits 2, heavy fires
CA Kinugasa, Shell hits 1
CA Furutaka
CA Kako, Shell hits 4, heavy fires
DD Oboro
DD Uzuki
DD Kikuzuki
DD Yuzuki, Shell hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
Allied Ships
CA Pensacola, Shell hits 15, heavy fires

Hey JWE,
Seems that Pensacolo is starting to give an accounting for herself in other games...trying to change that color!

WoW what a small world, I started in Leto and graduated from Robinson. The only school that the barbed wire fences pointed in. 1977 was a good year

He was part of a pre-war officer exchange program and decided to lay low after Dec. 7. So far, no one has noticed! [:D]
