V2.1C BTR Map Mod
RE: V2.1C BTR Map Mod
Don't get me wrong here, Nick, I like your work - particularly the multi-coloured one, but I just wanted to make an observation that amuses me...
Matrix paid good money to have the old map re-coloured and made more realistic. Then these bloody players come along and practically monotone the whole thing.
Keep up the good work.

1. Matrix should have made the map better in the first place.
2. Matrix should draw on the skills & knowledge of the players by giving them an editor to do these mods. WITP would be dead in the water if not for the Andrew Brown maps and the CHS, Nik, BigB & RHS mods.

Does this mod make loading faster (as if i need a speed boost)?
But it looks so clear, similar to old board games.

The bmp files are about 1/3 the size of the originals, so there may be some improvement in load times dependent on your video card.
My map is no doubt influenced by my board wargame background - I was playing AH Luftwaffe in 1972! [:D] Even more important these days is my eyes need all the help they can get!

Hey Nick <S>
Just wondering if there is a mod that only adds National Boundries but leaves all the original artwork and icons at default settings? I thought there was such a mod but I cant seem to find it now. Not to take anything away from this outstanding map mod. I just prefer the look of the original.
Regards,
KayBay

Deckard777 did do one but he withdrew all his mods for some reason some time ago but I am not sure why.

Something like this would not take that long to do; kind of best of both worlds. What do people think?

Unfortunately, this only highlights the incorrect rivers and topography in the original artwork.
RE: V2.1C BTR Map Mod
Yes you are right. How about if the terrain is washed out a bit?

Definately washed out; plane icons as well as green/blue and orange/red boxes get lost quick against the watercolour map.

I like the idea, and in fact tried it myself when I first started. But....
Definately washed out; plane icons as well as green/blue and orange/red boxes get lost quick against the watercolour map.
Which is why I ended up using the solid green color. It was difficult to find the correct combination of colors which works for everything.

@ Nicholas
Assuming that I'd like to make my own map mod by using original BTR graphics with city names, how do I start? Guess I have to assemble the whole map first, add text and subsequently cut it into 512x512 pieces again.
There are 56 .bmp altogether, so I must create a file of 4096x4096 pixel, 96 ppi and place the tiles like a puzzle. The order is left to right and top down. Starting with upper left I get 8 columns x 7 rows = 56 layers. That's right?
At next step I'm adding city names, each in a separate layer and group them with the according map tile. What font size do I use?
Afterwards I blank out all groups but the first one, cut the image and save this file as BTRMap000.bmp, repeating this procedure for the remaining 55 groups.
Is that the right approach or can it be accomplished in a more elegant way? Guess the web slice function won't work for exact partitioning of 512x512, but then again I'm still practicing with Photoshop.

RE: V2.1C BTR Map Mod
You have the procedure correct. Why not simplify your work and download my PSD file (see above) and simply overlay the original map bmp files on top of my map layer? That why you can use the city labels and borders I did - they are in a separate layer.
RE: V2.1C BTR Map Mod
Thank you, will consider it as template. But you you took all names in a single layer and I would have to slice this.

True, but you are going to have to slice the map anyway after you assemble it. So flatten the name layer with your layer containing the original before slicing.
