Your American ASW experience for just about every LBA in Hawaii and the West Coast pretty much "suck!" I dedicate those large Kingfisher squadrons and some of your PBYs to 50% training (ASW) after they rest to get their morale up to over 95%. If this doesn't work, then Plan "B" is.....[&:]

Oh good, I love advice [;)] Yes, i currently have some LBA's set to ASW....haven't found a thing off the west coast. My PBY's where hit the hardest during PH raid. I currently have spread what I got around the islands to look for incoming invasions to hit with cruisers if possible. Should I move some back to the West coast? [&:] This is where he's getting me the worst...and his sub commanders seem very goooooood [:@]. If hes planning right he will probably keep a rotation going to keep some of my DD's pinned to US.

I'm currently escorting my shipping with about 2-3 DD's until I'm past the danger zone, then I send them back with incoming shipping or to start over, very time consuming process but it has suppressed his subs some. Maybe when I get the planes this will be a good combination to drive him farther from the WC so I can start routing around him unescorted but still have a few go through so he doesn't get smart.

Thanks stuman, I find the generalized info much more interesting as long as I follow key storys, if there is anything more detailed you would like just ask the reporters [:D]

I'm playing Andy Mac "special" Ironman Scen 80 which has a nasty AI (8CV, 6CVL, 10BB, 24CA) at start. [X(] He has at least 6 subs operating off the West Coast from San Diego up to Canada. I've lost a few ships and am doing what you are doing, assigning a few DD's for escorts until the transports have gone far enough off shore that I can send them back for further use. The Canadian KVs are good ASW. Your Clemson Class DDs (old WWI Fluch Decks) can convert to DEs in 4/42 with an ASW of 8. So, I will use them sparingly until then. You have to decide how aggressive you will be in the SRA with those over there.

Most of your PBYs and FP have naval search ratings from low 40s to low 50s, which is OK for naval search and "may" find a sub. Their ASW rating is below 30. YIKES!! So, I'm adding pilots to get the PBYs to 15 for a 12 plane squadron (I think a general rule of thumb is about 120% overload of pilots per squadron everywhere). I'm only a couple of days ahead of your game and I'm just getting some pilots to hit 30. [8|] I'm going to try putting some of my PBYs and Kingfishers on the West Coast on ASW search, but with 30% search, 30% training, and 30% rest. I'm not hopeful of getting hits, but want to just find their position and/or patrol zones to avoid while others are trained up. This is mainly a trial by fire approach. [:D]

Hmmm...I'll have a look at the Clemson's. He's hit me hard again on WC, I'm afraid he's won this battle. My losses have been so high lately I think I'll stop feeding him AK's/TK's Maybe he'll think that i've found a way around him and relocate in a week or so.

The SRA...I'm afraid i've blown my fighting forces there, I had some free runs on landing TF's but they weren't as free as I thought. He slammed me hard with more force than I thought he could muster. Off the top of my head I only got 3-4 CL's and maybe 8 DD's left. I can't leave SRA open, we both agreed to treat all theaters as if the actual countries involved wanted to keep what they got. I'll peck at him until the fall is close and run with what I can.

For your battle over Rangoon what kind of force did you keep there? What altitude? What percent on Cap? In my game vs Scott he is slowly grinding me down in Rangoon, I've got plenty of good pilots but attrition of my planes is getting difficult to replace.

P.S. nice job on those Tankers during the Carrier strike[:)]

I forgot percentage. Mostly they have been set for 80% with 20 on rest. Always have 1 of the 3 sqd. down on rest. I should mention he had 2 disastrous raids that lost escort and several 5 sally's lost on one and the other was the only time I seen Betty's and they lost 7 aircraft and never seen them again. I didn't figure these butchery's into my figures for the report. [;)]

Another one of those 'to much time on my hands' things. The China Theater is turning out to be quite exciting. Who will encircle whom?

RE: The Illustrated Pacific War Chronicles

Post by CarnageINC »

The recent round of combat has sunk 2 more AK's, 1 DD, and a KV with no attacks against any subs any of the last few turns.

After some long discussion, Treznor and I are going to implement a new house rules with subs [8|].

1. No more than 4 subs can blockade a port/region. 10 hexes between ports is the min. space for this rule [:(]

2. If a sub is attacked by Air or ASW it must relocate 1 or more hexes away from enemy port. The sub can relocate closer after a full turn is spent at its new location [:(].

3. If a sub has orange or red damage, must go back to home port [:(].

Some of these are extreme but Treznor says he has kept 10 subs off west coast and has yet to take any real damage in addition to not even moving when under days of ASW attacks. We are starting to believe that ASW/sub situation is dinged. I have no problem with the amount of contact and attacking subs...which is minimal to say the least....but my big complaint is damage for hits taken. 1 hit should generate 15-25 pts. of damage, then the hit rate versus damage would seem reasonable.

I will be off for a few days of vacation so the post will be slow till then...happy new year gents .

US CARRIERS STRIKE BACK!

Post by CarnageINC »

Thanks witpqs, I hope so also.

WOOT! May have only sunk a CVE but it was a blow needed to boost the allies morale! The 3 are probably so badly damaged I won't see them for months! I just need these results against KB to really put a stop to Treznor's expansion [:D]
