Think you eventually will feel the Call of Cthulhu and set of for another journey down AE lane Wob [:D] One day we need to have a rematch you know....!-)

Owah Daddy do we have to go in that room...? There's a monster in the cupboard (or in the fish bowl - Kraken definately).

Enjoy Singers. Try and keep in mind that the Singer's Police don't have the same attitude that alcohol is an essential blood product - necessary for anti-freeze purposes, that maybe the Norwegian Fuzz do.

Difficult to play WitP:AE from jail for 'resting on a public sidewalk' - two years minimum for that. Even stiffer if you 'decide' to revisit the night's libation...

One of our two surface commerce raiders ran into a squadron of enemy destroyer mine sweepers (DMS).
In the half hearted engagement 2-3 small caliber shells hit the raider while it returned the favor by landing 2-3 14 cm shells.
according to these two sources the ship had 15 cm guns until march 1942 refit to 14cms.. did you already refit her or does she just come already upgraded?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_r ... n_Campaign

Original Armament Following March 1942 Re-Armament at Kure
  • 8 x 140 mm/50 caliber[1]
  • 2 x 80 mm
  • 4 x 25 mm
  • 4 x 533 mm TT (2x2)
  • 2 Mitsubishi F1M2 "Pete" Type 0 observation seaplanes,[1] with Mitsubishi "Zuisei 13" 875 hp engine, armed with 2× fixed forward firing Type 97 machine guns, 1x flexibly mounted rearward-firing Type 92 machine guns and 120 kg of bombs[4]

http://www.combinedfleet.com/Hokoku_t.htm

30 August 1941:
Kobe. Begins installation of four 152-mm (6-inch) guns, two 76-mm/40 cal (3-inch) AA guns, type 93 type 13.2-mm MGs and two 533-mm torpedo tubes at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard.

The 24th Squadron arrives at Truk.

12 February 1942:
Arrives at Kure. Begins refit and armament moderization. HOKOKU MARU's four 152-mm guns installed the previous autumn are removed and replaced by eight 3rd Year Type 140- mm/50 cal guns.

He's Back!

Wow PzB, that's probably the best opening to the war I've seen in AAR. Keep it up and the troops will be home by Christmas! (Next Year of course [:D])

Call of Cthulhu

Wow, I haven't heard that name in 40 years!!! One doesn't expect to see Lovecraft in an AE forum, much less Tennyson. Your AAR with Wobbly was the first one I read. I suspect India will be a tougher nut to crack this time around.

Bugger, these uber busy pre-Xmas days is taking the wind out of you!
Add 50cm snow, chaos on the roads and work and there's fine little time to fight a war [8|]

You think they are civilized enough to give me a laptop with Internet connection in a Singers jail Wob?
- A couple of years in a slammer may not be so bad after all....

Seems like you're right Krupp, the size of that raiders guns should be adjusted [:)]
Did these Jap raiders actually sink anything in rl?

I told Andy that it was no way I would invade India this time.

Great AAR. Good luck taking India, I sure will be watching to see how you do it[&o]. I'm in April 42 and still slugging thru Java against a tough opponent.[:D] Singapore fell quickly but Burma has been slow due to terrain. If you can control air and sea you should be able to land in India but the American fleet will beat your brains out if you get tied up to long over there. I am sure you know to keep a VERY GOOD SEARCH up, the american carriers went around Australia in my game and attacked my landing in Java before I had adaquate seach established. Sank 2 dozen ak's and then dissappeared[:(]

Recon and then do more recon. Add in setting your FP and some LBA to naval search is a major key to victory. Yes, it adds more micro-management, but overlook it at your peril. [:-]

Good to see you all again [8D] I was actually waiting for War in the East, but realized it could be a long wait...since my Decisive Battles ebbed out I needed something to raise the adrenaline level each night [;)]

So I can just as well spend 1 hour with AE each evening instead of watching tv.

Yah, that's sound advice! I'm putting most of my long range ac on naval 10-20% naval search.
Each turn I go through every single air unit in the combat zones.

Enemy carriers are gathering new Noumea (as usual). Maybe Andy will consider sling shooting them around Oz if he feel threatened.

- It's actually far from certain I will invade India, if I don't find this a viable option I got another most cunning plan!-)

After putting up a chandelier and a christmas tree I was finally done with today's chores. Gawd, every single thing you buy in Norway has to be customized and assembeled - usually requires a skilled handyman

Ok back to the war!

Today we captured Jesselton while Kuching was invaded.
Slow crawl south on the Malayan peninsula. Still building up in Luzon, going to ship reinforcements from Hong Kong but need to sweep more mines and gather some transports.

The KB and Mini KB will both meet at Truk for some R&R before heading out again.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Dec 16, 41

Ran into the Houston and co again! Another stand off, one of our destroyers need some dock time.
Lengthy day time combat - we actually got away lightly from this clash south of Davao.
Strangely this enemy TF hasn't been spotted and we have A-LOT of searchers and bombers in the area.

Day Time Surface Combat, near Talaud-eilanden at 81,95, Range 22,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Fubuki, Shell hits 2, on fire
DD Usugumo

Things are still proceeding according to plan - only lost a handful of cargo ships and a few aux thus far.

This turn I transferred crack pilots from the (R)estricted air commands in Japan and China to the reserve and training commands. Will leave a few skilled pilots and commence training of new cadres.

The KB's air groups are understrength - I will them up with a mix of green and vet pilots.
Especially green fighter pilots are ok, they are expendable and can be allowed to be shot down first. A green bomber pilot doesn't hit anything...so I'd like that only vet's break through to the enemy carriers.

Increased production of the Kate B5N2 in Hiroshima to ca 30.
Also stopped Pete production. Earlier I expanded Zero frame / engine production.
Will leave the rest as is for now.

Plan is to downgrade some of the training units in the Home Islands with obsolete ac to free up modern types for the frontlines.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Dec 17, 41

We're invading Manado and found some PT boats in port.
Incredible that it's possible to hit PT boats from 20k yards....Maybe they were out of fuel? :p

Day Time Surface Combat, near Manado at 75,99, Range 22,000 Yards

Japanese Ships

CA Haguro

PT TM-10, Shell hits 1, and is sunk
PT TM-11, Shell hits 1, and is sunk
PT TM-12, Shell hits 1, and is sunk
PT TM-13, Shell hits 1, and is sunk
PT TM-14, Shell hits 2, and is sunk
PT TM-15, Shell hits 1, and is sunk

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Kuching was bombarded by fast battleships and then captured. We're soon in posession of the entire northern coast of Borneo. Singapore's air defense has been destroyed so we now have air superiority.

Alor Star was abandoned by the enemy and captured today.
Still a slow haul....

In the Central Pacific Tarawa was captured.

The brutal PzB approach to crushing the DEI. I wondered why I woke at 4 this morning in a cold sweat - it is all flooding back to me.
At least there are no nuclear bombardments and precious little torpedo attacks in ports. Still had enough magazine explosions to give me the willies though.

do you have IKEA in norway too? . LOL, in america we are to lazy to even return our shopping carts inside, it drove my Norwegian gf crazy
Incredible that it's possible to hit PT boats from 20k yards

after reading all of the aars.. i think im 100% convinced that task force speed is a huge factor in whether you can hit the ships or not.. so being in port i guess they wern't moving = easy target. ive seen this alot, it may really be helpful to go full / mission speed if you know someones going to be shooting at you, im also convinced going full speed is going to make it very difficult for subs to hit

Afraid is spent most of my luck against you Wob, magazine explosions are much rarer now [;)]
2 thus far in this game, the Arizona and an Allied destroyer.

- Invading the PI, Malaya / Burma and DEI is routine - but mess it up and the 2nd expansion stage will be severly disrupted...

Hm, will keep an eye on the effect on speed related to chance to land shell and torp hits Krupp.
Play balance is in general good, but my gut feeling tells me a further slight tweaking is needed.

- Ikea is a cursed Swedish invention, and yes...we got plenty of those labyrinths in Norway The actually created Ikea with red (Norwegian) color scheme instead of the Swedish yellow knowing that this color definetly wouldn't attract much admiration [;)]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Dec 18, 41

Drama near Menado today were Andy got a small bone!

The twin invasion group for Menado and Ternate both arrived and started unloading during the morning hours.

Supporting the invasion was a close support group of 3 destroyers at Menado and a heavy support group of 2 heavy cruisers and 2 destroyers set to patrol / react between the 2 bases.

After unloading all cargo in the morning hours the Menado group was attacked by the cruisers Marbelhead and Tromp as well as 6 destroyers. The close support group fought a lengthy but non-decisive delaying action against the superior enemy force. - Unfortunately this was not enough to turn away the determined US-Dutch TF which pushed through to Menado and sank the entire convoy of 4 smaller escorts and 5 transports! (AE still got a tendency to eliminate all ships in such encounters). 2 of the enemy destroyers seems to have suffered serious damage and was observed in a separate TF by our search planes.

The good thing is that our troops will attack and capture both Menado and Ternate as planned tomorrow. The loss of the ships is regretful but nothing more.

Other news:

A look at the situation in Central China

Trying to open / secure supply and communication between our bases.
The light color displays paths that are currently open even though some of these are contested.
The red lines indicate paths that is the target for the next few months.

When these goals have been achieved it would be logical to try to capture the Chinese bases between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

- Don't want to make China into a major theater, but some adjustments are necessary.

Is the 2nd Air HQ in Manchuria high on your list to be bought out (PPs)??
If so, where does it go??
