Ok, How to do it! I want to help. I have time and basick skills but I have no idea how does it work.
Any info much appreciated.

Go to the main ART directory in the AE game folder.

Add two new folders.
AlliedPatch
JapPatch

Then transfer the unit patches to whichever folder.
All Allied to one.
All the Japanese to the other.

That's it, the game takes over from there.[;)]

DL the attachment Michael has in his first post on this thread.

It has all the info.

The inportant thing is the bitmap size for patches.
It's 70x70 pixels.
Dixie has a blank one with his download.[;)]

Does anyone know a good source for RN ship crests ? I've found a couple of sites that have a small gallery, but I can't even find all the CV/BB crests. I'll post the ones I have done here later tonight.

'fraid not. I've got a few, strangely the sub crests are easier to find than the carriers...

If anyone is doing the RAN crests then the Aussie navy's website has modern crests for pretty much all their ships, with a bit of work they can be modded back to WW2 versions.

Got some decent ones from here

http://www.flagsandcrests.net/hms2.html

Mostly round crests, the RN crests had several different shapes during the war as well [:D]

Here is my work up till now, not too much yet.

It contains 4 out of 6 RN CV's (missing Formidable and Indomitable)
9 out of 15 RN BB/BC (Missing Howe, King George V, Anson, Revenge, Ramillies, Royal Sovereign)
The CVE Hermes

Feel free to point me to any of the missing crests.

Edit: File deleted, I'm going to include the crests posted by Dixie first

It only has to end up 70x70, so it's good enough. This is the result in gif. so it has to be converted back to .bmp for it to work in the game.

Edit; I must bow to your research and/or google skills, thanks for the images

Pretty poor again. but Royal Sovereign, Ramillies and Revenge. It should be possible to make better version of Ramillies and Sovereign using these as a guide.

The KGV class crests were from a site on Russian Convoys.

Here's what I've got so far. It's a long way from being comprehensive, mostly Indian and Brit LCU/squadrons and a few ships and USAAF units. It's not easy to find unit emblems for the Commonwealth LCUs once you get beyond divisional level [:(]

Still got a few minor things to work out, some of the RAF crests aren't quite right for example.

OK, should be every RAF Squadron (excluding Tiger Force Canadians and Australians) with the proper crowns on top [:D] Several squadrons never received an official crest, so they've got a 'blank' RAF crest instead. I've got a stack of FAA badges to work on as well and I'm going to try and find enough info to bodge together badges for 2 Sqn IAF and later.

EDIT: I've also started on the Aussie divisional emblems for the AIF and Militia formations.

So it's quick and dirty, but it does have every British BB and CV except for Formidable. Everyone's favourite CVE Hermes is thrown in at no extra cost.

Anyone know how the RAN ship badges were supposed to look during WW2 ? The same as the RN badges or were there differences ? I've come across a couple that are the same as the RN, but without the crown or ship's name on them. Others are like the RN, but with a boomerang and ship's motto added (I guess this is the modern version and a quick look at wikipedia seems to confirm that)

The crest designs are available on the RAN website. During the AE period they followed RN practices, prior to 1940 the ships would have haxagonal, shield or diamond shaped designs depending on the class of ship. Post 1940 they were round.

HMAS Shropshire, Vendetta, Arunta, Vampire, Quickmatch.

EDIT: These were all either Haxagonal or shield based. Not sure on the rest of the RAN without doing more research into it.
