Thanks a lot Michael, after rechecking my queries, that indeed solves my issue on the immovability of a unit!

Now I can bother JWE some more on the mutual exclusiveness of the attributes... [:)]

Cheers,

Moss

Okay, I understand the question now. I'm just old and often slow - or maybe it was just slow and often old.

It's a bit wierder than that, because one needs to consider 'units' and 'subordinate HQs' as well as 'top HQs'. Function of the switches is the same, but there's subtle differences in the effect depending on which it is.

Best 'simple' bottom line is the switches are not really mutually exclusive, but the switch effects just keep adding up and 'some' of the switch effects are mutually exclusive (or at least they get swamped by the last made check). You might want to go ahead and consider them mutually exclusive on general principles. That leaves you with just 3 options: RP, SA, and RT. Don't try to add RT with anything else, because the ability to change the HQ assignment of a sub-HQ or Unit marker gets swamped by the 'cannot reassign' marker of the RP or SA.

Top HQ = RP - self explanatory.
Top HQ = SA - non sequitor, attached to what? Setting RP and SA switches just defaults it to RP.
Sub HQ = RP - cannot change HQ; all movement restrictions apply.
Sub HQ = SA - cannot change HQ; movement restrictions depend on status of HQ that the Sub is assigned to.
Sub HQ = RT - can change HQ; movement restrictions apply until Sub changes HQ to an 'open' one.

The different PP costs for buying out units and sub-HQs could be explained a bit more detailed. Since a Sub-HQ that is SA cannot change its own HQ, then clearly all its assigned units have to be individually acquired. Since a Sub-HQ that is RT CAN change its own HQ (say from an RP Top HQ to an "Open" HQ), all its assigned units will pick up the new status as regards movement.

But the switch setting on the 'Units' also plays a part. Some 'Units' are SA to a Sub HQ and thus cannot change their own HQ assignment - they are simply slaved to what the HQ does. Some 'Units' are RT to a Sub HQ and will follow the Sub HQ when (if) it is reassigned (assuming the Sub is also RT), but will require PP expenditure if the individual 'Unit' is reassigned to another Sub (or Top). But then, of course, there's the 25%/100% cost differential for reassignment inside/outside a Top HQ collective.

And then there's the auto Top HQ reassign for Subs and Units using the 'Port' and 'Airfield' fields. Another way to have a SA Sub HQ or Unit get its movement restrictions freed up by making the Top HQ an Open one. Switches stay in place for the Sub or Unit, they still can't make an individual HQ change, just lose the top level RP restriction impositions.

Lots of ways of skinning the kitty. Ciao.

OK, after reading, rereading and rereading once more, I'm beginning to see the light (yes, the Velvet Underground).
Elementary, my dear Watson [:)]

Thanks for explaining!

Ok, you just made my day. Not many of us know where Lou and John came from. Impressive. Woof.

I'm a One Nation Underground (Pearls before Swine) Tom Rapp kinda guy. Was sailing boats with him in Eau Gallie while we were kids back in '65. Damn.

Don't blame me, Dear;

Well, my first instinct was to put John and Lou (let's not forget Sterling, Moe and Nico) instead of the band name, but I thought that would be a bit hard to guess. Seems like I underestimated my fellow forumites [:)]... Ride on, Lonesome Cowboy Bill!
