If you were a time-travelling war correspondent ...

I'd rather be at the dentist getting my teeth pulled than anywhere near witnessing a WW2 battle. Too much blood and gore for me. I have a hard enough time watching someone else get their blood drawn. [:(]

Odd that I was such a correspondent -- for the Fort Hood Sentinel and Conn Guardian -- who hates going to the dentist -- every 4 months! -- and is abt to get his blood drawn this am.

I'd rather be playing AE. there's no blood and guts involved when I (inevitably) screw up and get my digital soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen killed.

If you were a time-travelling war correspondent, and could be in a battle during WW2 (and were protected by a shield to avoid getting killed), where would you like to be? Let's give 3 battles to cover.

My picks:
- Pearl Harbor, at shore
- Bismarck's raid, embarked on Bismarck
- Leyte Gulf, embarked at Yamato

I don't need to time travel. I just survived the Battle of Fall City during the night of July 4th. Ducking from bush to bush, i slowly made my way to the porch admidst a slew of starshells glitter and M80 explosions. The smoke hanging over the battlefield (re: my lawn) was thick and helped mask my movements. Egged on by GF huddling by the window with combat helmut on and too scared pooches (and one freaked out kitty)......i reached reletive safety whereby we huddled in our foxhole while the "fireworks" continued through the night.

Omaha Beach; sort of... Robert Capa took a bunch of photos of the 1st ID that were ruined during developing. Another report said a bunch of Signal Corps film was dropped in the sea as it was being carried back to a transport. I wish there was a way to retrieve those lost pieces of history. Unfortunately, they are lost forever, leaving a gap in the photographic record of those hours of valor.

Don't forget the 2 RCT's of the 29th Inf Div that were there as well, in the very first wave..

None.

I've been in battles. Trust me, they all suck. Death, pain, destruction. There is no such thing as a 'cool' battle. They are all horrible things. If I never see a dead body again I will be a happy guy.
