Problem

Post by hermanhum »

I believe what may be happening is that your game is unable to locate the new image folders. When that happens, it goes to the default folders (the ones with the colour images). Let me ask a silly question. Have you patched your game all the way to v3.9.4?

Can you double-check your folders hierarchy?

PlayersDB folder
.. Scenarios sub-folder
.. Pics sub-folder
.. Text sub-folder

You can also take a look in your Harpoon3.ini file. It opens up with notepad or any other word processor, I think.

Mine has a sub-section that reads:
[blockquote]; ============================================
; Directories where resource files are stored
; ============================================

ResDirCount 4

ResDir1 C:\Harpoon 394\DATABASES\PlayersDB\Text

ResDir2 C:\Harpoon 394\DATABASES\PlayersDB\Pics

ResDir3 C:\Harpoon 394\Resource

ResDir4 C:\Harpoon 394\Sound [/blockquote]
Can you show what your sub-section says?

Can you check the DB Manager tab of your launcher to make sure that you actually selected the PlayersDB? If you have forgotten this step, you may be opening the ANWDB or other DB unknowingly and thinking that you are in the PlayersDB. All the images used are the same because the same Picture ID numbers are used in the PlayersDB.

ResDir2 C:\Harpoon 394\DATABASES\PlayersDB\Pics

This path led to "...\Resource\DBPics" folder! I had to change it manually. Now it works fine.

Harpoon 3 scenarios for the PlayersDB

Post by hermanhum »

At least you got things solved!  [8D]

It is odd, though.  When I switch between databases via the ANW Launcher, my Harpoon3.ini file updates by itself.

I checked this also and Harpoon 3 Launcher 2.4 updates all database directory paths except that one!

Maybe I did not install all patches needed? First I bought and downloaded game installer file v3.9.2DR dated 4/30/2008 and later applied two patches: v3.9.3 and v3.9.4 but not v3.9.2 hot-fix for v3.9.2 and v3.9.2a patches. Should I install also this hot-fix?

No, I think you may be okay with those patches.  The game installs a little bit differently if you purchased the original 3.7.0.0 version.

Anyway I kindly ask someone from Matrix staff to confirm that. Otherwise I will have to reinstall entire game...or experience some "Game Menu issues". :(

Please specify which database product and which database version is the concern.

Given that information we can investigate.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The INI is updated by the Launcher - that's where the settings are stored. We don't use the registry. Make a change, INI gets updated. If a path got missed, I need to know about that so we can add it to our test plans.

AGSI updates are applied in the order they were posted.

We don't patch the binaries, we overwrite the executable s so there shouldn't be any special magic. Then again, I'm still catching up on some of the nuts and bolts so my answer is at 95% confidence subject to checking with some of my crew (which will take a few days).

The problematic databases in question ( fb.asp?m=2551144 ) are the ANWDB dated 2.1 Feb 12, 2009 and the HUD3 dated 1.3.21 - June 12th 2009

Hi again!

I reinstalled Harpoon 3 ANW including this v393b hotfix but problem with wrong path to PlayersDB images still exists. Anyway this is minor issue so I can change it manually.

I tried to replicate this problem and could not.  I moved the Pics sub-folder amongst the other database folders and my ANW Launcher seemed to update the Harpoon3.ini file successfully whenever it detected the presence of the Pics sub-folder.  I shut down the Launcher every time prior to re-positioning the Pics sub-folder before re-starting it.  That is the only suggestion I can give you at this time.

OK, let's forget about this issue.  [;)]

I briefly looked at Kirov-class BCGNs entries in Players DB. Several things are wrong with their fire control radars:

- on some cruisers SA-N-4 launchers are removed but their associated MPZ-301 Pop Group fire control radars (FCRs) still exist. They should be also removed.

- I am not sure if 3R37 Hot Flash fire control radars of CADS-N-1 CIWS are modeled or not but I cannot find them on the sensor list in DB Editor. So I don't know how targets are tracked thus. Is CADS-N-1 guidance based only on auxiliary optical system in PlayesDB? Anyway CADS-N-1 acquisition radars of MR-352 Cross Dome type are not installed on Kirovs. BTW, CADS-N-1 was fielded only on "Kalinin" and "Andropov" cruisers.

- "Petr Veliky", the only active Kirov-class cruiser today, has frontal 3R41 Top Dome FCR replaced by 30N6 Flap Lead radar taken from S-300PM SAM ground version. This should give her slightly better detection range and possibly increase number of simultaneously engaged targets.

- I am not sure about SA-N-9 SAM installation on these cruisers but according to some sources "Kirov" did not have this system, "Frunze" has only one (one 3R95 Cross Sword FCR with 64 missiles in 8 VLS launchers), "Kalinin" and "Andropov" have two installations (two 3R95 Cross Sword radars with 128 missiles in 16 VLS launchers).

I think I may have found a solution for your problem.

1) Go into your ANW\Resource\DBPics sub-folder
2) There should be three files named:
SubPic.RES
ShipPic.RES
PlanePic.RES
3) Copy these files over to the Pics sub-folder found in your PlayersDB folder

Evidently, I must have encountered this same problem in the past and this was my solution. It has been so long ago that I probably forgot all about it. I tested it by moving around a Pics sub-folder without the three files and found that my Harpoon3.ini file did not update. When those three files were present in the Pics sub-folder, the file updated properly. Let me know if this works for you.

It is quite interesting! I do not have SubPic.RES file... [&:]

For the purposes of this test, try making a copy of the ShipPic.RES file and then re-naming it to SubPic.RES.  I believe that the presence of this/these files are necessary to trigger updates by the ANW Launcher.

Try switching to another database, then switching back to the PlayersDB.  Maybe that will trigger it.

Also, you can try to copy the other four files from DBPics to Pics:

Banner_AGSI.PNG
Banner_Gouge_Box.PNG
NoMedia.PNG
NoMedia_Banner.PNG

I do not believe that these images play any role, but I do not believe that it will hurt, either.

I tried exactly like that and nothing happened.

Now I reinstalled entire game without any patches and I still don't have SubPic.res file. Can you tell me how many catalogs you have in Resource/DBPic/Sub folder? I have only six: 013, 014, 031, 033, 055, 059...

Resource/DBPic/Sub folder has only six sub-folders for those subs, yes.

Are you shutting down your ANW Launcher completely whenever you switch databases and then re-starting it?  There are some functions within the Launcher that will not update unless you first shut it down.  Unbelievable, but true.  [:(]

Yes, I reloaded H3 launcher before running game.

OK, but what about SubPic.res file? I cannot see in the game even all of those six sub picutres, only Kilo, Los Angeles and Sturgeon are shown...no Ohio, Seawolf, Virgina.
