Unit pics too cartoonish?

The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

Erik,

the unit art and map art for this game is first class. This is how wargames should be!

But can You explain a bit the x number? For ex. in the last picture Hotchkiss-35 x45 is that actually 45 vehciles?

Top notch artwork. Brings an exitement level to the game. One minor gripe, the column of data on the left hand side of the counters, it's almost impossible to read it's so small.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

Yes, that is indeed what that figure is.

I like the map but not the unit artwork. I also think it looks a bit cartoony. If the game is solid I will certainly buy it in spite of the unit art though. For my idea on what really nice unit artwork is take a look at the Mapmod for France '14.

The artwork is good, but I can't stop looking at those counters. Sexy them!

Tastes are different. It would be pretty boring if all games suit all people ;)
Vic and me are pretty pleased with the outcome.

That being said. This game is fully and very easy modable. This was a design goal.
The unit artwork is a layered system. Consisting of background landscape, unit / equipment picture, soldier picture and front landscape. All easily accessible.
Basically, if you wanted to get rid of the single soldier faces all you would need to do is to replace them by a blank transparent PNG.

I like the map but the unit illustrations at the bottom look cartoonish. Can they be modified by the user?

Congrats, finally a turn-based strat. game that actually looks good!

Most other games of this kind makes your eyes bleed, and looks like they were made 20 years ago . I hope this is a new trend, so developers in the future will prioritize graphics higher. Think of all the hours the gamer will spend in front of the screen with a good game,- looks does matter!

Don't listen to all the old farts that says otherwise and almost seems proud of playing a really ugly wargame,- like it makes THEM being more hardcore

Anyway, can't wait to go deep into "Fall Gelb".

Well my very first impression of the very first screenshot was: hmm, maybe a bit too cartoony. That was last week. I've been away for a short holiday, checked out the new screenshots and I've totally changed my opinion: the game looks freaking awesome! Not in the least cartoony but very beautiful drawn pictures, well done, good choice.

It is the best looking map I have seen in a turn-based game since the old Battleground series (they were hand-drawn). Since then it actually went backwards with ugly, modular tiles or very basic maps in screaming colours in most wargames. It put me off from many turn-based games, playing good-looking simulators or real-time wargames instead.

Nice to see that the developers want this game to look like it was made in 2010, not 1990.

Is it still on schedule for release this month? (You only have one week!).
This game will look fantastic in 1920 x 1200 on my 26" Asus LCD monitor!

The graphics are absolutely gorgeous - clean, clear, attractive map and unit graphics. I echo what BodyBag wrote - it's about time that more time, effort, and $$ was invested into making the games pleasant to look at it. After all we're all going to be spending a lot of time staring at the graphics![:)]

Best wishes,

Doug
