Kind of both, free for PCK owners, for sale to anyone else. It is not really a patch but an overhaul of PCOWS and PCK.

I wasn't counting updates in that, by the way. We actually have ten releases that COULD realistically be finished and released by mid-December. Obviously, some will not make it, we are working hard and trying to give every release the best possible chance.

Enthusiasm for expansions depends pretty much on enthusiasm with the original game. Big fan of DW, so looking forward to this one.

One big happy family now, remember? I'll get this, but I hope there's a little (or indeed a lot) more content than Immortal Fire which was decidedly 'lite' IMHO.

Good list of games for the armchair general to think about there.  Why is Matrix selling Revolution Under Siege,but not Rise of Prussia?  Not that it matters just curious.  The one title I'm really looking forward to is the mega patch for Panzer Commander Ostfront most because it'll be free and the original PC was a dang fine game.

It is stated in the Harpoon section of the forums that they will not patch the separate games anymore once this is released.
So you need to buy this to get continued support.

That's going to be the case. Evidentally they're both getting repackaged and sold together. All future updates will be only for the Ultimate version.

I refused to buy ANW after purchasing the previous version two years earlier. And the previous one still has that hideous internet activation crap on it that doesn't want to work properly. Looks like it's a washout on both of them for me, in the end. Maybe someday we'll get a brand new version instead of this cycle. [:(]

It's an expansion for a pretty damn fun 4x title, however -- one with quite a few fans. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

tbh I'm only really interested in War in the East - however, chances are it'll be off my "acceptable spending per game" allowance - so I doubt very much I'll be getting it.

I'm hoping BftB will be on sale at Christmas - but even if it is, the price would have to fall by £15-£20 before I'll buy it - and that's unfortunately unlikely.

All in all, looks like the genre isn't offering me much at the moment here. [:(]

Distant Worlds expansion does strike me, though I haven't played the original for some time (not a problem with the game, just me moving on to other things) - I might just pick it up as the original was worth the money.

This is a real surprise. And you're right [:'(]. I checked the forum and Joel writes:

The only item remaining to get working is the Server based PBEM system. The interface code is 95% completed, but we're having a problem at the moment with communicating with the Server. We hope this problem will be solved very soon. Other than that consider us at beta.

The game is certainly playable right now with the exception of the PBEM server code that needs to be finished. There is plenty of fine tuning to do, and that will continue after launch. There are still bugs to fix before launch but none are game breaking IMHO. No doubt there will be a few bugs we missed at release, and no doubt they will be squashed.

Wow and I was about to buy a boardgame on the '41-'42 Crimean Campaign. Holding off now. I do expect WitE to be pricey though. Heck, its the whole War in the East afterall!

PS: I say, screw PBEM for now and release the game - people are going to need time to learn it before getting their heads served to them FtF no? [:D]

So it seems. I'm afraid unless the "significant discount" is 80% plus I'll not be bothering.. as far as I'm concerned I've already paid for both products, and have no desire for '20 classic versions' any more than I have redundant versions of anything else. The irony, of course, is that many of those buying this will be doing so just to get 3.6.3, which in view of the history is pretty funny, really.

It does seem an odd choice. That approach works very well for quick-playing games as you can incorporate match-making, rankings and such, but seems pointless for something like WitE.

It is the best way of applying some level of anti-cheat protection. Because there is such a huge variance in possible combat results from Air-support and reserve activations that are not player controlled, there will be a huge temptation to use the save/reload ploy.

The problem really with the WitE/WitP/TOAW demographic is not so much cheating itself (although it would be niave to pretend it never happens), but the possibility of it. Say, for example, that the 'huge variance' in combat results in WitE BigAnorak describes was hugely in your favour (without cheating, obviously). Even while your opponent might never cheat himself, he might well suspect you have, and of course the same the other way around.

Yep, this one comes via our partners at Tri-Synergy. It's a Sci-Fi tactical squad combat game, similar in some ways to the tactical side of Hired Guns, but in a Sci-Fi setting.

For existing owners of PCK, it's free. For others, it's a new release and IMHO a greater leap for Panzer Command than Kharkov was from Winterstorm.

Great Battles Medieval - Old game right?

A 2010 release, not yet available on all markets as it's still being rolled out to different markets and platforms. Very good game IMHO, definitely similar to the Total War style.
