Anyon listening...Hello Matrix?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

"What if" is not really a problem as they make scenario.

If you want to have no hindsight then you need to have some random variable to keep think unknown or have player make politcal choice at the begining of the game that would make the other player guess to the exact situation.

Be careful, that some effect are both way as no killing the military establishment would left Stalin with no power or high risk to lose or have lost power. I think this is not a what if. The real unknow are wheter or not the Japanese will attack as it was something Hitler expected; the correlative is wether Germanyu declare war on the US or not as the main reason for declaring war to the US is to bring Japan to war with USSR. Making those event either player choiced or random will destroy most hindsight.

I am somewhat against it for default game but why not in an option.

Best regards

I'm not a huge fan of "what-if" history to be honest. History is history, and it happened the way it did for a reason. I'm all in favour of including what-if options and chances of randomness, but only as an option, and as long as the game itself doesn't sacrifice historical accuracy in order for this to be possible.
Everyone has his preferences. But if the game is only historical )i.e. the historical result is forced), fine: you play it once and learn a lot about how things went and the problems faced by both sides. End of story.

If the game is to last a long time as it should, some "what-if" options must be considered, otherwise the game will be on the shelf within a year.

One revision I have always wondered about was if Germany had not had to invade Yugoslavia in April and Barbarossa had started when it was planned to in May. 4 extra weeks would have been a huge advantage and was well within the historical "what if" possibilities. I am hoping that gets made by someone as it would be very interesting to see how it played out.
I already suggested this idea for a mod and was told start date is hardcoded and it would be a problem knowing the oob of Axis and where to place them.

Another vote for more "what if" and variable options. I'd love the following options (recognizing that I've no idea how hard they would be to code and may be completely unrealistic): (1) mild, normal, severe/historically accurate winter; (2) AI Soviet defense choices of [a] Stalin's "Don't give an inch" strategy or a fighting withdrawal/land for time strategy; (3) Japan invades or not; (4) originally planned start date for Germans or not; (5) other stuff I've thought of and can't remember right now :)

Cheers!

Also D-Day fails and the front gets reinforcements from France.
