You guys are way too hard on Pearl Harbor. Any movie with Kate Beckinsale in it can't be all bad! [;)]

You're right, it's not all bad. It is complete, utterly horrid garbage. See, bad doesn't even begin to describe it.

Ok, I have to mention this.  We are US ex-pats living in Toronto.  My son came home from school several years ago stating that his teacher said the Japanese attacked the US because the US had war plans (orange) against the Japanese.

I nearly blew a gasket.  I gave him a real understanding of history and gave him some questions for his teacher.

In perspective the movie that shouldn't be named is better than the history lesson my son recieved at school that day.

I've learned more about it myself by reading books than I ever learned about it in school. They barely cover it, and what they do teach has been skewed to tell it like they want, not like it was. Without the facts, we are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past.

When it comes to your younger relatives or others, you could easily buy them a book on the subject

We are talking about Washington..and not Washington DC, right? In latter case, it'd be utterly futile...[:'(]

When it comes to your younger relatives or others, you could easily buy them a book on the subject or direct them to wikipedia, otherwise a simple explanation that the Japanese attacked without warning, bringing America into the war would probably suffice, or they could always talk with your aunt. Although, unless they enjoy history, I doubt they are going to show much interest.
Well they tried to declare war first but got their timing out. Didn't the USA only declare war on Iraq after the ground/air forces were already inbound?

I did not realize that the US declared war on Iraq... Did they really?

Wow... 10 posts before turning this thread into a America bashing political thread.  And some people are wondering why some of the old hands are not found on the boards anymore.

She's the only reason I'll watch that movie more than 5 minutes at a time. Every scene she's not in though is nothing but garbage.

I recommend Uncovered then.
It's a cheesy movie, but she's in it and is often "uncovered"

There are ALOT of good guys on this forum from many different countries, but I'm sick of reading this mentally diseased infected stuff!

The only reason I still haunt the boards occasionally is because I put a stop to exposure to the miscreants by virtue of the GREEN BUTTON.

Try it, you'll like it.

While I still get a small bit of exposure via quotes of the miscreants by others, the reduction in exposure to their inflammatory culture bashing has done wonders for keeping my blood pressure under control while surfing and preventing me from boiling over and lambasting them as I had a tendency to do in the past.

The Green Button is your friend!
Hans
