At least 30 or so moons I think in the whole Sol.[X(]

Again, the Astronomy geek strikes. Saturn and Jupiter both have about 60 confirmed moons each!!![X(]

Ok, new challenge. Just as in the antarctica superhuman challenge in xcom where you had to play the entire game with only one base let's try to reproduce Sol as much as possible....and play only with it [:D]
We'll be the minor race that don't gets squashed !!!

That is true about the number of moons, but many of those are just glorified asteroids.  I decided to include just the "major" moons at each gas giant.

We have begun encountering extremely large space creatures.  The "average" Giant Kaltor is nearly as large as a destroyer and can rip a vessel to shreds with its diamond-sharp claws.  Rumors abound of Giant Kaltors that can dwarf a cruiser.  How a creature such as the Kaltor can even exist seems to defy all logic.

Pirates continue to plague all of known space.  Here a pirate escort intercepts a Republic colony ship attempting to land on an independent Shandar colony.  Unfortunately, the colony ship is lost with no survivors.

The other races are considerably ahead of the Republic in colonization technology.  It would be extremely awkward if some of the desert, ocean, or ice worlds within our sphere of influence were lost.  However, research progress on new colonization technology is proceeding at a glacial pace.  The Republic addresses this problem with a perfectly valid strategy:  It throws money at the problem.

Incredibly, we learn that humanity has been to the stars before.  While many believe this is simply impossible, most citizens take heart in the knowledge that humanity once led a coalition that held back the darkness.

Despite every effort to eliminate known pirate strongholds, it appears that piracy will remain a problem for the forseeable future.  Fortunately, our defenses are stronger than ever.  Here a pirate escort unwisely decides to attack a mining station defended by 3 Fox class corvettes.  The pirate vessel was swiftly eliminated.

The other races have told us tales of a space creature called the Ardilus, but it was somewhat surprising when our first encounter with one took place at the Sol system itself.  This particular Ardilus was drawn to Jupiter as a nesting place.  The Ardilus is as large as a capital ship, and it can use its armored fore to bash a vessel into fragments.  Fortunately, the Ardilus is slow and can be kept at arm's length, although one must still be wary to stay behind the creature so it cannot charge.  The Ardilus possesses a certain majestic beauty, but unfortunately it instinctively attacks any vessel within reach.  The only way to deal with an Ardilus is to destroy it.

Somehow the Ardilus can travel the vast distances between stars; how it accomplishes this feat is currently unknown.

A truly momentous discovery.  Deep in the Lumabo system we have found the half-finished frame of a truly gigantic mobile battle station.  We have dubbed this derelict the Desolation Moon.  There are also a number of abandoned warships floating nearby.  One of these, the Proud Aggressor, was found to be fully intact.  The Proud Aggressor contains technology well beyond our current understanding; although it would be tempting to take the ship apart, we have decided to commission it into the Fleet instead.

The Proud Aggressor's first mission is to clear away the Space Slugs nesting within the wreckage of the Desolation Moon.  This mission is swiftly accomplished, and a Faslane yard-ship is dispatched to assess the salvagability of the Desolation Moon.

We have encountered another alien empire, the Dhayuts of the Ita Supremacy.  The Dhayuts possess a large and highly advanced empire, and worse, they seem to possess an almost instinctive dislike for all things Human.  Inevitably, first contact goes quite poorly.  Even our trade partners are complaining about them.  This does not bode well.

Awesome, send more![8|] Neat thing about the WD. Now you can go on a planet killing spree, heheheehhehe[:D]
You should watch out for those Dhayut, they have both Korrabian spice AND Zentabia Fluid. Plus they have a ton of colonies. They have the potential to rule the galaxy, so I doubt they'll be very friendly with anyone with their reluctance to trade the rare resources. If you can get them to trade though, it'll help you a TON.

Cheers

Far to the galactic south, not one, but two Earth-like worlds have been found in the Ikoriun system.  We quickly rush to claim these worlds.  Strategists debate whether or not to mark the Ikoriun system as the southern extent of our border.  The Republic is flourishing, but its worlds are extremely spread out.  Our far-flung colonies would be very hard to defend in the event of a war.

The Republic has seen three more years of peaceful expansion.  With the advent of Desert Colonization technology, we are able to officially claim more than half a dozen desert worlds within our borders.

Yes, the fact that they have two rare resources is a bit worrisome. Within the span of a few years they had grown from 16 to 41 colonies. At the same time, my empire's income was starting to slow down a bit, and I wasn't really willing to set aside the massive amounts of money needed to make the Dhayuts happy with me. I just tried to leave them alone in the hopes that they would leave me alone.

We have encountered the Teekan race.  The Teekans operate their government in the fashion of one large corporation in which every Teekan has a stake.  Although the Teekans seem harmless and somewhat comical, they have already colonized 18 worlds.

The Naxxilian Federation has settled one of the Ice planets of the Khandrela system, just a short jump away from Earth.  As we already have a desert colony there, we do not wish to share a territory so close to Earth, not even with a trusted trading partner. The historic Khandrela Agreement cedes ownership of Irpeuker to us in exchange for a cash settlement.  We also obtain Proximity Sensors technology, which is swiftly added to the designs of all of our ships.  The Naxxillians of Irpeukker become citizens of the Republic.

A Dhayut warship has destroyed one of our merchant ships in the Ryluth system.  The attack took place without warning even though our vessel, the Graceful Dawn, was following all proper protocols.  Our citizens are outraged by this callous act of aggression.  The destruction of the Graceful Dawn becomes the turning point at which the Republic begins to realize that peaceful coexistence with the Dhayuts may not be possible.

Typical Dhayut aggression, will they ever change?

Nice work with the Khandrela Agreement. Good bit of business that.

Our ambassador on Ita lodges a formal complaint, however it soon becomes clear that the Supremacy is not interested in taking serious action.

Meanwhile, one of our scout vessels in the distant Abraxas system, beyond the southern extent of the Ita Supremacy, has stumbled upon an entire fleet of pirate raiders.  We can only assume that some of the other empires have been funding these pirates to attack outlying Dhayut worlds.  The Intrepid Star jumps away just in time...

In the distant, uninhabited Ramazin system we have recovered an abandoned capital ship.  Analysis of the ship's computer core reveals that the vessel has been silently orbiting Ramazin 6 for thousands of years.  Amazingly, it seems that this was one of the flagships of the ancient human armada.  At the very least, it cannot be denied that this mighty warship is clearly designed for a human crew.  We also learn the ship's name: Raging Retribution.  Although its weapons are not quite as advanced as those found on the Proud Aggressor, our new battleship more than makes up for this in sheer quantity of firepower.  As tensions rise between the Republic and the Ita Supremacy, the Raging Retribution is swiftly commissioned into the Fleet.

Four more freighters have been attacked.  Some of our trading partners have dropped all pretense of diplomacy and are requesting that we declare war on the Supremacy.  The Supremacy seems intent on striking out at any neighbor for any reason, or even no reason.  Our strategists predict that it is only a matter of time before they turn to us and start picking off our outlying colonies.

As a precautionary measure The Fleet assembles at the recently-colonized world of Eulus 1, near the Republic's border with the Supremacy.  We are able to cobble together 8 Lola-class destroyers, the xenotech destroyer Proud Aggressor, the battleship Raging Retribution, and two fully-loaded Robinson-class troop transports.  This fleet will defend the space port under construction at Eulus 1, as well as respond to any other incursions upon our frontier.

Our friends in the Free Aitun Paradise have declined our proposal for a Mutual Defense Pact.  Perhaps this is because they wish to keep us out of their war with the Supremacy.  In any event, the Republic has recently initiated a crash shipbuilding program for dozens of new corvettes, frigates, and destroyers, as well six Bastion-class orbital defense bases.  If the Shandars will not enter into a defense pact willingly then we do not have the funds available to convince them otherwise.

In one bright spot of news, we have entered into a Free Trade Agreement with the Xenox of the distant Di Girrelleun Technocracy.  We are not really expecting to see major returns in trade with them, but their territories will provide a safe place for our far-flung exploration ships to refuel.

2769: THE ZENTABIA WAR

The Ita Supremacy feared Terran Republic expansion so close to its own borders, and they were rightly concerned that the once-inconsequential humans were on the verge of forging a major empire right on their doorstep.  Internally, the war with the Republic also served as a means to distract the Dhayut public from the massive losses that were occurring at the hands of the Ancient Guardians.  The ill-conceived war with the Guardians was going so poorly that the fleet strength of the Supremacy had been nearly halved in less than a year.  Surely a war with the humans, with their small and somewhat primitive fleet, would result in a profitable subjugation agreement and prove that the Supremacy was still a force to be reckoned with.

As history would show, however, the humans were not content to let the Supremacy marshal its forces.  Instead they surprised almost everyone by immediately going on the offensive.  This vicious first strike was aimed at one of the Supremacy's most important worlds:  Zentabia.

-Excerpt from The Zentabia War, author Haiyan Huai, Earth, 2790.

2769.06.08

The Terran Republic is a peaceful nation.  We do not want this war.  Yet the Dhayuts still have the indecency to claim that we provoked them.  Our xeno-biologists say that in many ways the Dhayuts cannot help but view us as prey animals.  If that is so then they are about to find out that this prey bites back.

Image

If we are to have any hope of victory against the Supremacy then we must negate the factors that currently give them an advantage.  A Dhayut destroyer is pound-for-pound nearly twice as effective as our own Lola class.  It will be some time before we can deploy the sheer quantity of warships needed to fight them on even terms.  However the Supremacy has declared war before they were ready.

The moon of Zentabia lies in the Adiga system, just a short jump away from our fleet at Eulus 1.  At Zentabia, a captive population of Shandar are set to gathering the fluid of the extremely rare Zentabia flower.  This fluid is known to have amazing regenerative qualities, and a mere droplet is worth a prince's ransom.  By freeing the colony and claiming this resource for the Republic we will greatly degrade the Supremacy's economic development.  The 1st Fleet consists of the Proud Aggressor, 8 Lola-class destroyers, and it is accompanied by the 3rd Fleet consisting of two Robinson-class troop transports.  The combined task force makes the jump to Zentabia.  The Raging Retribution will stay behind at Eulus 1 to defend the planet while the last few components of the space port are completed.

The die is cast.

Image

2769.07.26

The Proud Aggressor arrives just ahead of the other ships of the Fleet.  Amazingly, the system seems virtually undefended.  Our sensors quickly tell us why: an Ancient Guardian cruiser is atomizing any Dhayut vessel it can find.  It appears that our troops will be able to land on the moon unopposed.

The Dhayut are fierce warriors, but their 3 battalions at Zentabia cannot stand against 14 Striker battalions.  After a ground battle lasting less than a month Zentabia is ours.

An overview of the local situation.  Zentabia is firmly within our control.  With the spaceport at Eulus 1 complete, the 2nd Fleet (consisting solely of the Raging Retribution and a Robinson class troopship) assaults the moon of UT883 in the Kurrubah system.  The Dhayut ground troops are outnumbered 10 to 1.  The moon falls into our possession after only a few days.

It is risky splitting our forces into small components like this, but we must reduce the Supremacy's ability to resupply their ships in the field.
