Agreed, this kind of thread should definitly be stickied.....it will be bumped all the time anyway but even so it's a good idea to stickie it.

In my opinion expanding the combat side of the game in the first expansion was a mistake,it is the weakest part of the engine.Fighters and added weapon systems did not and much the the experience at all and were kinda lame to be honest.DW is not a tactical game it is strategic.

Expanding exploration events,internal politics,full simulated leadership,living galaxy,borders,alien policy's is what the first expansion shoud have done.

It's a matter of choice, from what I see Elliot likes to do more or less of everything. Every step forward helps...even in tactical game direction [:)]

Even though I liked the new stuff RotS brought, I have partly agree with Ashberry here. I hope the next expansion leans more towards expanding things outside battles and wars (which it will probably do).

As for me combat part of the DW is weak and needs a good boost (more different weapons, firing arcs etc.)
Everyone finds something that he likes in games, for me its tactics and warfare!!

I see these firing arcs... But...

Combat in DW seems to be about getting at a suitable range compared to your weapons (setting in the design) and blast it until it dies. While doing this, gang up in suitable numbers.

This is a far distance from firing arcs, which gives me images of formations, escorts darting around at the weak angles of the bigger ships, etc. This is nice in a ship of the line tactical game, but as a part of a 4X game that really should be in 3d and is not? Having combat in 2D is sensible as long as you don't have firing arcs and stuff that really care about positions.

I think the fighters give something to the game... Space creatures are easier to kill. Escorts probably lose out, as the large ships now can catch them. And when you jump in with a fleet containing 40 fighter bays and order the fleet to attack a single major ship, that opening punch from the fighters hurts. It is like they start at half shield [:D]. And this at a time when other weapons are not yet in range.

As for firing arcs i made a good suggestion i think http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2728587 Its not about you control ships, so its not tactical game, but to set their behavior.

I voted for more tech-tree components/technologies, new racial traits and abilities, more story/exploration events, more diplomacy, personell crew/captains/admirals/spies, exploration ship options, ship boarding and capturing, and finally more ship roles and images.

[:D] Still wish I could vote for more... (runners up empire borders, galactic news service and conquer/colonise options).

Thanks everybody for voting so far.

Interesting to see tech/components slipping down to 5th place. It finished 2nd in the first poll. This could be down to new options taking precedence.

Borders are more popular than expected, but of course, we only want this if the system works well and improves the game.

3 votes for the Kaltor farms!!! Proof enough that it should be added to the game ASAP! [:D]

Nice to see diplomacy, trade, and galaxy news getting some love. But bigger map sizes already has 24 votes? Man, you guys have too much time to play DW [8D]

Bigger map sizes are not about the number of stars, but the distances between them. Bigger board, the same number of pieces...

Empire borders has shot up to 2nd place! Looks like the popularity for Personell/Characters has abated.

Notice theres not a great deal between some of the mid table answers, so there could be alot of changes there.

Half the time I've counted the voters, I've found there to be a decimal. I don't know if it lets you vote 5 times, submit, then return later and make another 3 votes?

If you clear your cookies or use another browser on the same computer, you can easily get back your lost votes, and I hope that's what we're seeing people doing.

I'm a bit concerned about folks abusing this and voting more times than they should. It's a pretty lousy thing to do, but I know there are some people out there that might believe their opinion counts more than others.

It's my hope that Distant Worlders are a more honest bunch, but you never can be certain.

That's why most of us also post our choices here, much more transparent this way. It's not much but it should help confirm the results - kinda like a statistical sample.
Maybe Matrix can pick up your idea and create a poll in a more controled environment (registered users only and such). It is really good and the gain far exceeds the effort.
