Don't worry about rushing anyone, speak your mind freely; we can try and convince each other without a problem, it's an open debate and each of us votes as he likes.

Have you ever played a complex game where the AI can keep up without a big boost or house rules? After the you learn to play the thing, of course.

Chess doesn't count, it is just a simple state search solved years ago, and simple rules ;-)

I guess something disguised as strategy but which really is a contest in "how fast can you click?" can be easier to make an AI for, though. The AI is better at doing lots of things at once.
Indeed not all AIs really come up short.. Ie why i think that these game having MP is quite important ..

Multiplayer is one of the easiest to put into this game. Nearly everything can be let automated. I really don't see where the stress should come up.

I don't know what you consider Multiplayer but it is just 1-4 human players. You'd have it easier in the end with additional humans joining your cause. Although you could decide to not be allies and go their own way. Nothing in this game has to change. If you have 100 AI players and exchange 3 of them through human players....would this change the game?...simply no. It's just optional to play with a couple of friends together. Nothing about the game mechanics and/or features has to go. It's just the ability to swap friends in to play against the universe of AI players.

And i can tell you. There are some games out there that play on such a massive scale like distant worlds in realtime and can host multiple human players coop against the AI.

I See no complication why not MP would work as a game feature in DW only maby it's impossible to program it in the code.

I have played Europa Universalis series for years and mostly Europa Universalis III more with my friends we are usually 6 friends who play MP and never use pause function and it works perfectly.

Something that must be said even if I am pro multiplayer:

I don't think that COMPETIVE multiplayer will be possible without heavily modifying the SP experience.

What I mean and want for this game is to put in a simple MP function so some friends can play together or against just for fun.

Technically that should be fairly easy to achieve, just use some free network library like lidgren to sync game states between the hosts.

If modding would provide the possibility to access the game states I would try to do it myself [:)]

That's what i wish for too. Competitive MP is of no interesst to me. Just a cooperative play with friends against the AI for pure fun without changing the game. Only thing that would be needed is a simple MP mode where you can also save and load and where you can switch off the "game pause" for menus. And that's fairly simple to make.

I would consider direct IP connection and LAN if possible with a tiny connection lobby where everyone can setup his empire and mark himself as "ready".
