Major add-on to my favourite list: I absolutely love the "Akat Mountains" from EVE soundtrack. It's everything I love in SciFi music. Epic, touching, eerie and still has great rhytm. Reminds me of System Shock 1 and some other 90's classics. Pure nirvana!

Necro alert! * big square panel on right side of screen and annoying alarm sound *

I made a custom theme and added a bunch of music for fun. I don't really care for specific music, i.e. "battle music" etc as they quickly become repetitive. I just picked one theme song for the start screen (named it DistantWorldsTheme.mp3). Played a bunch ingame now and it's great. It's not really a big difference to turning music in-game off and playing with your favorite media player simultaneously as gaming though. The latter also has the advantage of being able to switch track with media keys (if you have those on the keyboard).

Now for the music.

I downloaded music from Ektoplasm. It's a free psytrance music site where everything is downloadable under the Creative Commons license (free use for non-commercial purposes which works here).

I looked for Deep Trance or Downtempo, which is a slow beat. According to me, it suits space games well. Some examples below.

Perfect Blind - Three Spires

Dream Stalker - Electronica
