There are 8 arms factories at Vsevolzhsky which is 1NE of Leningrad.  They may still be there and should be part of the Leningrad evacuation plan.  Bad news is if they are there, the rail is now cut and will be a loss.
D'oh. Oh well, I should have looked around in the surrounding cities better.

One thing to note, as long as you have the ports under your control, you can slip some units out of Leningrad by naval transport if you choose.
Yeah, but where to move them to by naval transport? Maybe one of the ports to the east nearby.

1.05.18 beta Farfarer vs Fulkerson (sov) T7

Post by larryfulkerson »

Here's the front lines in T7 before any Soviet movement is made. The South is an udder disaster. I'm thinking nothing can be salvaged
from that kind of advance. I'll do my best though.

I've gotten into the habit of going to the CR and sorting the units on "%TOE" and everybody who is less than 90% is set to "refit" and everybody 90% or more are set to "reserve" if they will, "ready" otherwise. The slider thumb says that about 1/2 of the total force is on
refit. I expect to see that number climb when the reinforcements really start to appear.

I just now upgraded to the 1.05.23 beta version.

EDIT: Here's the front lines after all the Soviet movement has taken place. This is just about the best I can do under the
circumstances. I've got some troops digging trenches around Moscow but I hate to interrupt them just to shore up the front
lines.

I thk Russian players might be spending to much rail evacing forward production.

Just give up the 25 arm pts west of rivers and get ahead of the advance as Flaviusx is doing in our game.

Dont bother railing out Hvy the first 10 turns.

The Russian player has to rail around some troops every turn or at some pt around turn 6 the front will start falling apart.

Just give up forward production, use 1/2 of rail for troops and 1/2 for arm pts. You should only lose 40 to 50 this way, which is under 70.

Good advice thanks. Unfortunately, the front seems to be falling apart already. I'm scrambling to find enough troops to rail
forward as it is.

Farfarer says:  here is a quote for your AAR if you wish:

"I noticed Larry was railing out Leningrad factories, so I opted for an easier north of Ilmen thrust, figuring he wouldn't defend the not worth defending. To my surprise there was a very good wall on the Novgorod-Lenin line and I was caught out.  Supply was tight etc. so no great changes in Northern Oplan possible.  On the landbridge, the defence is very strong, and only 1 Inf Corps was ready for deliberate attacks - an entire rethink was needed. The South is now the Wild West, a strategy with which I have a love/hate relationship."

Farfarer says:

I could not relieve the Mot Div north west of Smolensk.  Well done. It took everything to reach the isolated Pz Divs to the south and connect to them.  I committed to breaking the imminent stalement on the landbridge by doing the hook, we shall see if it is worth it. Recon suggests you have pushed your defences forward rather than Festung Moskou.  My "North of Ilmen" strategy is turning into a slog.  I see why guys stretch out the Sovs and do the great right hook.
In the south you have savaged the Roumanian rail net, but thereby activated the Italians and Bulgarians.  I know from experience that these 'bonus' troops will become "fodder that creates Guards in autumn 1941" if used agressively so we shall see.  The deep south is Wild West, which it seems to be for me regardless which side I play.

Happy if you use the above in the AAR. In fact it is probably what most AARs should be as it will give the reader a 'real time' impression of both sides.

This is the front lines. I've already moved the three Soviet units in Lapland. It looks like I may as well give up Leningrad because of the
possibility of Farfarer doing the right hook. All the industry is railed out of L-grad so I'm ready to abandon the city. I hate to do it because
it releases the Finns.

I found an opportunity to counter-attack and to my surprise I blew away the 10th Motorized Div.

I ran out of reinforcements to rail to the front so I started evacuating industry instead.

Leningrad is getting hammered. The guys sitting in Leningrad and the area surrounding are isolated from the rest of Russia but
I think maybe they are still in supply.

Here's the spot near Kiev where FarFarer has made a breakthrough. I'm not all that sure that I can successfully contain this one.

Rather than wasting a turn sitting I shift forces south of Smolensk and the mud line. Still wild west in the south. I opt for a mediocre thrust across the Dneiper as being better than nothing.  Crimea isolating Ops. A fun twist having the Italian 9th Army, though they will end uop digging.  I think the Axis should be able to activate all the Allies using AP.

Assign guys to anything but STAVKA is they are going to having to fight. -6% for being out of range is better than an automatic -20%.
