Japanese 3D "combat" ship silhouettes...

Post by Supervisor »

Well, they zipped down farther than I expected, so I'll just attach them to this post. ;)

These are the original ship silhouettes on the transparent backgrounds modified to "3D". Complete set.

The files need to go into the directory "JapShipShills_transp".

Size is 146Kb.

I love it! Bravisimo! Did you add a bit of green on the USN one? They look very nice. Many thanks Rowlf :)

Nope. Just as they came, "out of the box" so to speak. :D

Aircraft graphics

Post by Michael Walker »

I wonder if it would be possible to modify some of the aircraft graphics? Some are pretty good as they are, but others are not. It seems as if some aspects of the aircraft, such as wings, have been re-used. I could swear that the Nell for example has the wing of the Oscar. The wings on the Dauntless are particularly bad as well. One other problem is that all aircraft are about the same size, so bombers end up the same size as fighters. I don't know what you could do about that, but it would be a nice improvement.

BTW, this is not a complaint about UV, it is the best game of its type and the best of any type to come out in a long time.

More detail would be a treat

Post by Ron Saueracker »

Squadron insignia and call letters (like a model representing an a/c in that squadron), proper markings for period, ie, USN roundels with red centre and candy striped tail etc. I'm not an aircraft expert but I love the flavor that level of detail gives. More to scale planes would be cool as well.

You can´t do nothing about the size. All the graphics have been done with accurate linedrawings as backgrounds and reference, so the wings are "in shape" allthough at this size they can look of course simliar.

I have used "random" camo scemes, period markings etc etc, as they change during the timeframe of UV, with one graphic for every squadron what can you do? The US roundel with the red centre was obsolete by the time UV plays.

Yeah, Ive notice the same thing. The Dauntless seems to have the wings of an Avenger and the Avenger has the wings of a Dauntless. I know its nit-picking, but it is kinda annoying.

With all due respect. Haveing built scale models of both the Dauntless and Avenger. I can tell you with a high degree of certainty that the wings have been transposed between the two. Or possibly the planes themselves have been mis-labled. Since the wings are really the only discernable feature between the two anyway.

Again, not really a big deal IMO, just a little annoying.

aircraft graphics

Post by Iron Duke »

marc,

the graphic for the B24 and the PB4Y are completely different , the B24 appearing to be very short . As these aircraft where the same aircraft should'nt they be identical . If I remember correctly the PB4Y was perhaps 3-4 feet longer ( nose turret )

I've also noticed that when the P-38 fires it fires from both wings and not from its nose.

Last one , the P-47 is blue should be olive drab

Cheers

Sorry guys, the Avenger and Dauntless have indeed been mixed up, I will correct this with the next patch.

B24 and PBY4.
The B24 "root" graphic was from another artist, I made the PBY4 from scratch. Will fix that too.

Fixed, Dauntless / Avenger / Helldiver (hehe, that slipped you ;) ), added more detail (color scemes, random of course) to a few planes, fixed PB4-Y and B24s, and a few other pixels.
I've also noticed that when the P-38 fires it fires from both wings and not from its nose.

Well, I ´m not programming, just painting. That would be Keith´s turn.

Both versions are in. It depends on what graphic the OOB is taking for the different squadrons. That would be Rich´s turn .

Some alternative silhouettes . . .

This is the Allied set of alternate ship silhouettes that I've done. They're based off of photos, silhouettes and/or line drawings that I've got (or been able to locate).

* Original modified silhouettes used, included here again for completeness.
** This was the silhouette (of the appropriate approximate tonnage for small) that was the most different from the medium class. One AP has a tendency to look somewhat like the others (has something to do with their mission :D).
*** Minor modifications to the originals only.

Unzip the file in the Uncommon Valor\ART directory and the files will automatically be placed in subdirectories of the AlliedShip_Back & AlliedShip_Transp directories. Then just copy the set that you wish to use into the AlliedShip_Back and AlliedShip_Transp directories.

Alternate Allied ship silhouettes (normal & 3D) (size: 5060 Kb)

Just FYI: This will be (most likely) the last mods that I will be able to do for quite awhile. All these mods should be available at Spooky's UV site.

So, enjoy what I've done.
