Who's around?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Gents -

I have not played for over a year; my time (weekends only) has been focused on WitP AE. Eagle Day / BTR are first class; I played the originals extensively. Eventually I will need a break from AE and will start BTR again.

Good to see so many of the old crew still around and active. The problem is that Matrix has so many good games out, it is hard to find time to play them all. I do hope Harley and Hard Sarge are able to continue their support of this game. I know that their work is done because of their love of this game - and it shows.

Take Care, Gents -

Mac,
Good to hear from you. I got back into BTR because I was unable to continue a PBEM in Witp-AE after a computer crash. Given my limited time, I figured playing the AI here was better than disappointing a PBEM opponent there - and having played PBEM in AE, I can never go back to the AI, unfortunately!

I've just started a 44 Allied campaign, thanks to the Queen's jubilee extra day off...

Would love to PBEM - but it would take many years with the little time that I have.

Great game.

Yes, it's like WITP-AE, you select a partner with more care than a spouse. You might be with him/her[;)]longer.

I am playing 2 X PBEM games at the moment - '43 campaign both as Luftwaffe. Happy after a day where I scored 64 kills for 8 losses with only 4 pilot casualties, and these included 36 B24Ds shot down.

I remember downloading the last patch on December 15 2009 from my hotel room in Belgium during my tour of the Ardennes. Coming up on 3 years now!

The "bomber turn back to target" bug has kept me from playing this game and I hope it get's addressed in the patch if it ever happens.

My guess is that this bug is related to the coding of the "secondary" target algorythm, or the "target of opportunity" feature which is also suspect:

(26) Targets of Opportunity
If you send out a raid and it cannot locate a primary or secondary target, then on its way home, if it can see a target that looks like a military target, it may attack this new target instead. These locations are called "targets of opportunity". Raids turned back due to morale failure, drop their bombs immediately and ineffectively and thus will never seek out targets of opportunity.

Greetings All <S> [8D]

I am still here. Still working on my thread in The War Room. If I can get more time I should be posting in the near future. Still playing my campaign and having a blast. Still running some old ones in the original Talonsoft version too. [8D]

I'm still hanging in there. I'm 150 turns deep into my 700 turn marathon. At present, the RAF is doing the heavy lifting as far as victory points are concerned. My daylight strategy (as of mid January, 1944) is not so much about strategic bombing damage, although this will shift soon. At present my emphasis is on killing as many German pilots as possible while minimizing my own losses. As soon as P-51's are available in large numbers, I'm going after petroleum and fuel targets with a vengeance.

FWIW here's a screen shot of my latest Campaign Summary. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

This was an immersion killer for me as well. I'd spend a lot of time carefully planning routes, escorts and fighter sweeps only to have bomber formations massacred through turning back. The game is still on my hard drive and I visit this forum periodically, but I must admit I haven't played in a while.

Still playing! Just completed a 1940 BoB campaign as Fighter Command, good early victory over the Luftwaffe. Now trying the campaign as the Germans and really struggling! The AI's tactic of scrambling everything first thing has caused me some embarrassment, so adjusting my own tactics to suit. Why do Hurricanes seem much harder to kill than when I was playing the RAF?

Hey Cripes ! <S> Sir !

Some thoughts and suggestions to consider.

You are in January 44, you do control Italy correct?

Not knowing your full situation in ETO you should be in good position to form serious strikes from Italy in the many Airfields you should now control. If you have not done so I would suggest you move your Groups into northern Italy and stage Daylight Strategic Operations from there. In the MTO you have many P-38 Fighter Groups with long legs from the very start of operations in August 43. If you have them along with your B-17 and B-24 Bomber Groups in Italy you should be able to reach most of southern Germany and many industrial facilities out of reach of your forces in England.

In ETO your P-47 Fighter Groups you have had from the start should have received Drop Tank upgrades by end of November 43 at the latest which should significantly increase your radius of operations. They should also have been upgraded to the D-15 or D-25 series by now as well. You should be able to be reaching the Ruhr Valley industrial complex by this time. You should also have at least some P-51 Fighter Groups at this time. Do you not?

Regardless of whether the above is the situation or not I might also suggest that you look at a serious focus on Transportation and Supply targets such as Rail and Port facilities. The thought being, if you can not stop German Industry from building it you can greatly slow the delivery and effect its use against you.

You might read around the War Room for some thoughts and experiences posted by many in there to help you with your strategy.

Just some friendly thoughts, and as usual I can be totally wrong and way off the mark about anything at anytime. So don't trust me cause doing so could lead to your DOOM! [8D]

Hope you are having fun with this fantastic game!!

Best Regards,

KayBay [8D]
