RE: Let's Play Star Trek Picard Era mod
I found this episode (7) very interesting to play! I hope it comes across OK. I won't say what happens but most of this episode is about Picard and the Federation hunting for the pirate raider Grievous Swarm (who has been actively raiding our home system from nearly the start of the game).
Hope you enjoy.

Nice subplot about Grievous Swarm, Das123. A lot of unexpected events occurred with that pirate ship. Looking forward to what happens with that destroyer.
Old............but very fast
RE: Let's Play Star Trek Picard Era mod
I think you're gonna find the Dominion easier to take on now. Not just because of your improved tech, but because the rest of the galaxy seems to be ganging up on them. This happens most games, but they usually have allies, like the Cardassians and the Breen.
The Gorn were seen in the TOS episode, "Arena". Kirk fought the Gorn on Cestus III and subsequently lost his shirt. They're a pretty aggressive race, but they're relations with the Federation has improved much. In the expanded universe (soft-canon) they actually share Cestus III with the Federation.

What's up with the Federation refusing to help an ally in need in episode 2/3, not only once but twice.... Seriously.... Really..... And this after giving the whole role playing "to keep with the spirit of the mod" speach as well. That went out the window as soon as the Federation realized that they wern't the most powerful force in the universe...
Screams from the doomed planet ---"Picard, please come and help us, we are in dire need. We are under attack from a force much greater then ours and they are entering our sector.... For the love of god, Picard, do something..... and quick".
Reply from Picard ---"Off comms. Terminate all communication with any distress call." Shakes his head... "Mr. Data, plot a course to Cardasia 1, we must go home and refuel and rearm before we dare to enter into a war that could stratch my precious enterprise. We are certainly not going to risk anything to help any others... Maybe once the federation has time to grow and we outman they enemy 10 to 1 then will we risk entering into this war and besides maybe by that time we will have the knowledge to replacate the DNA of the now extinct species that we will leave behind to fend for themselves..."
Way to play the mod with the spirit in which it was attended.....

RE: Let's Play Star Trek Picard Era mod
Episode 3. 19:20
The Federation receive an offer from a recently contacted race called the Lurians. Another group called the Dominion have declared war and they are willing to trade bases if we join the war on their side. We have no formal relations with either but the Lurians are on friendlier terms with us. They didn't ask for help, they made a trade offer.
As happened between Cardassia and Bajor, the reply would have been to not get involved militarily in a conflict that doesn't directly involve the Federation where there are no existing treaties but to offer mediation. Federation is more about using the carrot than the stick. Federation also not in a strong enough position to intercede.
Episode 5. 19:00
Another trade offer presented this time from the Kressari against the Dominion. Once again no existing treaties so correct response is not to get involved - especially when not in a position to assist.
Episode 6. 18:30
The Lurians declare war on our allies the Tamarians. The Tamarians ask us officially to become involved. We are on good terms with both races but diplomatically our duty is to honour our treaty though reluctantly. War is declared yet the Federation take a defensive stance and only protect Federation territory rather than actively force the war into the Lurian planets.
----------------------------------------
I'm comfortable with the roll-play of each of these incidents. If the Dominion had declared war on our allies, the Tamarians, then no matter the state of our military I would have honoured that request too.

By the time Deep Space Nine series came to a conclusion the Federation was very pragmatic about what it could and could not do. Also in the Next generation itself how many times did the "prime directive" stop the federation from saving a society, helping to avert disaster? Many times..........
Das123 has made an excellent overview/introduction to Igard's Picard Mod,it'll probably inspire many Distant Worlds owners to give the mod a try.
Personally I am looking forward to episode Nine myself.
Thanks Das123 for making a really enjoyable video lets play for the picard mod.[;)]
RE: Let's Play Star Trek Picard Era mod
Well it looks like I have come to the party late...... I have only just watched the first 3 epsidoes so I can not comment any anything further into the series at this point. Once I have a chance to watch those I will of course comment on those as well.
Of course you can play your AAR anyway you want DAS123 but you basically built up the first several episodes as a "here is the Federation at work" lets see how this plays out now...... But when the time came for the Federation to step up to the plate, they didn't and they left their allies all alone... There is no way that this would ever happen in Star Trek -Picard era. The Federation wouldn't allow it and Picard wouldn't allow it.
Proof of existance from episode 3:
1:00-1:31 The Federation (you) declares that the Dominion will be your enemy. Infact you mention battle--something against them, infuring that the Federation will go to war and fight against the Dominion at some time in the future. The Federation then goes on to declare that the K'thar will be our allies. "We will be fighting the Dominion and keeping the K'thar as allies." Also at this time the Federation mentions the war between the Dominion and the K'thar and which side they will take.
2:15-2:20 The Federation then proceeds to brides the K'thar to become closer allies by sending them money. This is done in hopes of building a better relationship with them.
2:38-2:49 The Federation declares that they will go to war with the Dominion if the Dominion tries to take over an independant planet of Kurill 4 before the Federation has a chance to do the exact same thing.
The Federations defense is three fold: (according to your comment)
1) K'thar is a new found race and we don't have any relations.
According to the filed captains report (video ARR) the K'thar is an ally. The Fereration sent money to them, give them trade and mining rights, and also tryed to get a free trade agreement.
2) They didn't ask for help them made a trade offer.
The K'thar are in need and call on the Federation and are willing to give them their entire galaxy map and also every credit (money) that they own to call on the Federation to help join their side in this war that has been going on for along time. The Federation knows of this war and they know who they are going to support during it but the Federation chooses to ignore the K'thar plea for help. Even knowing that the K'thar stand no chance against the Dominion, the Federation turn a blind eye.
3) The Federation is not in a strong enough position to intercede.
According to their own admissions the Federation was strong enough to go to war with the Dominion for their "own", personal gain but are not "willing" to invest in a war to help protect an ally.
So for whatever reason the Federation turned a blind eye to the K'thar, even though they had relationships, called them an "ally", and was strong enought to go to war for their own personal gain but not to aid an ally.
It looks like the Picard era AAR forgot one important thing..... "the needs of the many, outweight the needs of the few...... or the one"

RE: Let's Play Star Trek Picard Era mod
Well you are really going to be upset when you get down toward episode 8 then:
The Federation plan to land troops and take over a Gorn colony!
The federation plan on moving passed their Tamarian allies and landing troops on Bajor as well! This is because this bajor, there are two systems with the same name in this game,is outside of the Federation colony zone.
Also the first firm alliance the Federation had was with the Tamarians and the Feds have lived up to their alliance with them.
When does "inferring" something make it legally binding? We have a tom o'lawyers in the Federation. In fact rumor has it that in the last Chief of staff presentation to the federation senate if the Borg attack again starfleet will simply unleash the legal department and have them try to assimilate that!
You really should watch the other episodes and get in on the saga of the Grievous Swarm.
