RE: Aircraft Service Ratings

Post by sandman455 »

Just some random notes from my tinkering. . .

Service rating doesn't seem to be best substitute for what we really want. I'm guessing it relates only to the repairing aircraft, but if it includes the likelihood of it breaking down, fantastic. That said I've found myself bumping the SV-rating of aircraft based almost exclusively on the offensive and endurance capabilities of the aircraft. The 4E's stayed put mainly because they were already maxed, however everything below them, if they could fly far or fly with a heavy load, it got bumped up 1-3 levels. Again, with enough AV you can overcome the SR so it really is just a stop gap designed to force more support for heavy air ops. Transport, and patrol aircraft were moved up as well but not nearly as much. Fighters with little offensive capability actually got cut down to SV1-2 based on just engines. The intent was to allow more defensive missions to counter the strikes thereby slowing down the overall pace of offensive operations because more aircraft come back damaged or not at all. Again it was just random ideas put into a personal mod.

My personal wish list includes:

An ability to bump up pilot fatigue accumulation on offensive strike mission.

An ability to do a global edit to the cost of all air operations. The cost of 1 supply point per 1000lbs of load is simply not realistic at all. If all you have is supply to cover the cost of flight ops, then you have to move this value up to even begin to cover the weight of stuff required to drop 1000lbs of bombs. Your fuel alone would out weigh your bomb load by 2x. Parts, oil, water, and normal consumables would probably double it again.

Not sure where I heard the phrase before, or if it is even close to the truth; but if "one liberty ship carried enough to put 100 heavy bombers in the air for one mission" then what we are working with now 3x-4x too low. Raising the cost for air ops is a great way of slowing down the air war.
