Updated Manual

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

I'd like to help with the endeavor, but not sure how much time I can commit at present. If I can get a draft of such a thing whipped up i'll share it here and go from there.

Looking up a couple of posts, someone(s) already did a lot of work on this. It would be great if it was a live document somewhere that others could edit as well.

Is there an actual updated manual that is up to 1.09? If I check the manual from the game launcher its from 10/13..just wondering if there is a manual that reflects all changes up to date. Thanks!

Try this:
tm.asp?m=4083700
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

I'd like to see an updated manual for the legacy patch.
The 345 pages of manual, 300+ pages of patches and 145 pages of user reported updates is a bit much.
Thanks for the link to the updates until 1.08 Denniss....

The Manual-US-Letter still shows the 2013 annotated version up to v 1.07. Is there any chance we will get a v1.11 updated version soon(tm)?

Having not played for well over three years I'm trying to get my head around changes. New manual is a good idea to help but it does not appear to be up-to-date. Is this going to happen?

I don't have a pdf editor but it's locked anyway. I could edit it using open office. If someone wants to send me in .doc or odt format or an unlocked pdf I might attampt to update it.

I get really anoyed when a good game gets spoilt by lack of correct documentation, unfortunately this happens most of the time.

I have heard that the US LETTER manual from 2013 is the most up to date one. Unfortunately the PDF file is [SECURED] which means that the creator of this manual did not allow us readers to highlight important passages. Does an unsecured edition of this manual and/or a newer version exist anywhere?

As a new player this game is daunting enough on its own without having to deal with outdated manuals...

there's also a "condensed manual" that is helpful, if a bit idiosyncratic.

I was having a quiet afternoon so my thoughts turned to gaining a greater understanding of the rules manual. To do this I had a look at all the changes made in updates since the updated manual came out in v1.07.11 in 2013. I found there was a staggering 540 changes to the rules and features made since then. Is it any wonder that newcomers like myself struggle to grasp the game. I think that the priority for the next update should be to update the rules manual.

Couldn't agree more. It even causes a problem for those who have played before and have come back after a number of years.

We need somebody with a pretty significant block of time to go through the existing manual and incorporate all those 540 changes. Simon Edmonds are you volunteering? You would be doing a massive favor for the rest of us.

I think that you would need a professional, paid version of Adobe or some other .pdf editor in order to edit the manual file.

You can't unlock the WITE-Manual[US_letter].pdf?

Hey Moravel, can you send us an unlocked version of the manual?

I have the same file that you have. I don't know who has the source (in .doc/docx I guess).

I've managed to unlock it and create a word version through an online facility.

As I do not have Word I used Open Office Writer to open it but the formatting came out so bad, it was unuseable. Probably down to two different processes I went through to get there.

Plan Z seems to have worked, well almost. This entailed using Windows Word Pad to read the Word version which it did no problem. I then tried to copy and paste the contents into Writer but Word Pad would not let me do that so I finished up copy & pasting sections, saving each section separately except for the contents pages. This would not copy and paste with acceptable results. I believe this was the cause of all the other screwed attempts.

Bottom line is I now have an acceptable Writer version which unfortunately still requires going through to correct the inevitable formatting problems this convoluted procedure caused.

Once that is done I can start the update process.

How long? Well how long's a piece of string.

I will try to find my last editable WinWord version and post it here...
