2/20/13 Anything to Report?

Get ready for Mark H. Walker's Lock ‘n Load: Heroes of Stalingrad. This is the first complete computer game in the Lock ‘n Load series, covering the battles in and around Stalingrad during World War II.

Can't wait for this either. COH PC was the letdown of the century for me. WCS took a wrong turn at every corner IMO.

I just want a game with more depth. Although I like the CoH interaction of players during the turn, I'm just not sure if the system is almost too simplistic for my liking. Maybe it is the small number of units available, but the action almost seems too similar for every session.

Lebetron, what is it that they went wrong with? I knew you were unhappy with the direction concerning persistent ap's, but were there others. My initial reaction when I was first offered to try the game was not very good. But IMO, it still beat anything else on the market. There of course isn't much out there.

Were you a fan of the boardgame? Have you revisited it since they added classic ap's and the boardgame maps? Those have helped I guess, but I really want something with some depth. I wonder if they spent too much capital making it 3-d.

Why can't we just get a game that is like ASL? I want various buildings, many different movements, weapons, more combat results, leaders and leader actions, tons of terrain types, many different levels of units and differing types of squads etc ala ASL. I'm just not sure that CoH, even in its original form, could ever deliver that.

I'm not dissing CoH by any means, I'm just wondering if the system may be at fault.

I do like the look of HoS. Much like the looks of ASL. I am not familiar with that system either. Does it play closer to ASL?

I'm with you Bro...didnt care much for CoH...Thought it was going to be abit more like what I'm thinking(hoping) HoS is going to be like...
I seen that app that dude made for CoH for his iPad and thought that was going to be more along the lines of how the marketed CoH was going to be like.
Lets hope that HoS is going to be more of what we all are thinking its going to be..:)
Man...this is deep...lol

guess it was the imagery and how it was laid out that didnt appeal to me. What I saw of the old videos of this(HoS) and the way it is presented seems more like an active boardgame and is what I was looking for.
Oh Yah..."SCREENSHOT"....please?? [:'(]

active boardgame

That is what I really want. No need to reinvent the wheel. Just a great looking game that looks like the original, intuitive UI, Netplay, capable AI, and automated book keeping. I don't want everything under the hood. I want to see the why's and how's of the rules that I know. Show me bonuses and to hits etc.

The boardgame maps for CoH do help with the looks quite a bit as do the hi res counters.

Similar but not with similar complexity.ASL,with the years, has become quite unplayable due to the thousand of rules to remember [;)]
L&L have a very good board game graphics and i hope that have also a detailed combat system ,in particular with regard to the AFV.

Which is all the more reason why ASL needs to have a PC conversion.

Yes,the PC can remember the rules for you but if the rules are thousand the problem becomes to write the program(without bug!).

I think that if they take "Baby" Steps in this first game(to make it Really Good)...they can advance the content adding more stuff down the road. In other words...take the slow steady path to making of a "ASL" game. That way you cut down on the bugs and stuff and keep people hungry for more content on a GREAT Solid game. :)

Hey, that brings back memories. I forget what came after Cross of Iron. I haven't been able to find anyone to play the boardgames in so long that I just had to throw them away to make room. If Walker and co. just faithfully copy the original ASL boardgame, I for one will be happy. And no downloads, just the old fashioned hard copy disc that I can clutch in my sweaty little hands. I don't mind downloading a game I'm going to play once or twice but HOS will be a keeper.

They already tried then abandoned it Combat Leader..the game that brought Matrix to my attention. They where also going to follow it up with a Pacific RTS game called Close Assault.

The death of CL was a very sad day..however they where trying to do two hex scales in one game..which I think most likely caused all sorts of problems.

Hi guys,

I'll be posting some new pics next week. We're editing the final draft of the manual and getting ready for the final pre-release beta test, which we should be recruiting for at some point in the next couple of weeks.

Regards,
