Bunker this link is amusingly just a few threads from this one hehe (but you miiiiight not have read it through heheh).

showthread.php?s=&threadid=26322

Follow through the thread and it will lead you to free copies of perfectly playable wargames.
They are not new, some have been a round a while. New is not automatically better.

I personally advise getting Panzer General and Allied General above the rest, the reason being they are the most "playable".
People's General though gets a nod as well.
Fantasy General and Star General may not appeal to youif you are looking for specifically "wargames".

For Allied General, do not miss getting the Wing32.dll file (or Allied General will NOT run...unless you actually ARE running Win 95 still). That file though must be placed in a specific folder of Windows (not in the game directory).

Some other meritorious links would be

http://bouldergames.com/

They have a ton of games, but their web site sucks on a web site level.

http://www.wargamer.com/

They don't make games, but if you have not been here you have missed a great site (Wargamer has cash problems, but they are still a good site to visit).

http://www.wargamer.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

That is the forum link at Wargamer and is a fine spot for discussions (I go here a lot to see if anything new has shown up).

http://www.wargamer.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

This is specifically their Board game forum (you won't find to many decent forums for board games routinely).

http://www.wargamer.com/cgi-bin/ultimat ... forum&f=34

Alas the forums at Wargamer some days look like they neeeeeever move.
Although the General Forum is routinely active.

These people often have titles you would swear were no longer on sale aaaaaanywhere. They are an unknown to me though, I only now they are out there at this time.

http://www.secondchancegames.com/

Got this link thanks to Wild Bill (if he likes it you will too hehe). Lots of useful links to be found.

http://www.hpssims.com/Pages/Links/links.html

These people actually sell original retail copies of the games you can sometimes find as free downloads.
So if you want the real thing, look here.
I got a copy of Steel Panthers 2 Modern Battles from them plus the Campaign cd,and it was the orignal article, not a repackaged item. I have the original box, manual etc. (sometimes a person just wants the real thing).

http://www.cdaccess.com/index.htm

Avalanche Press is making current new wargames, some are nice looking (I don't own any yet).

http://www.avalanchepress.com/line_Panzer.php

Here is the link to the thread (you also might have seen this one) with people discussing Panzergrenadier in Matrix forum members own views.

showthread.php?s=&threadid=25342

Last link for now look here at Strategic Command. A nice looking game (make sure you get the 1.04 demo version though).

http://www.battlefront.com/index.htm

The only software not yet mentioned is the Operational Art of War software from Talonsoft. I think you would be looking for the title called Century of Warfare (which is the item that has all the previous titles unified into a single purchase).

You now have the pick of the litter for all of Sarges best bookmarked links heheh. I hope they give you a good days worth of browsing:D

Oops should include this link.

http://www.theblitz.org/index.php

They have a handful of demos of games that are not often findable as demos.

Including Operational Art of War

Carlos, when you get RGW-41-44 ,make sure that you download all 5 patches from Schwehrpunct (yes I know the bane of the computer age) and install them sequentially, 1.1, 1.2 etc. There have been significant improvements to the game via these.

I am not sure about XP as I am using ME. I know it was designed with as low of a sophisticated computer system as they could to reach as many people as possible. Email them at Schwehrpunkt and ask.

I would be agreeable to a battle, but I don't think I could handle the 176 turn campaign. Christ we'd die of old age before we could complete it with the multiple phases. I know in the patches they fixed it so you can vary the turn sequence to eliminate some of the time problem. Good man that Ron Dockal. I'm doing well to get in 1 turn a night against the AI. Not enough spare time it seems.

Long games are the best, as you can really develop a grand scale strategy that sometimes take a long time to work, but when they work......

It gives long time planners an edge. I dont mind playing a game that may last 6 months or a year...

I already played Siege of Jerusalem, the entire, full campaign, took like 3 months...

With the PC will be something like a turn each 2 or 3 days...no hurry :)

Jim, just to let you know, I just received the rules you sent.

Thanks for this "so hard to find" kindness.
I cant say nothing else to express how impressed I am with your goodness.

Thanks a lot. That was really cool.

If anyone wants to know what I am tallking about, I asked the Afrika Korps avallon hill game rules, and Jim 1954 sent it right away by mail to me. And I live in Brazil.
Thats sure a nice example to follow !!!

Thanks Jim :D

Sometimes that's all you can muster up due to stacking limitations. Just hope you don't roll an A-Elim.

Hey Jim did you send him an actual hard copy copy of the Africa Korps rules?

Just asking, cause it seems like that.

He actually took a very nice copy of them all including charts and everything. Placed it neatly in the envelope and sent on the next day I made my post.

I am still stagered about it. Impressed of how much good can some people be.
AGain, it was from Texas to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Thanks Les, I did just send a copy fo the rules. Was easier than trying to get a scanner to get it clear enough that he could actually read it when he got it and printed it..
