The quest...

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

If I was doing it, I'ld try a system where units have a Posture (what it is actually doing that moment) and Orders (what it has been recently told to do). Then I would create a system based on the units prof, morale, etc, and a chart of postures and any rules to govern the procedure to change postures.

Is JrCar actually Rob? I might have been quoting Rob to Rob!
I'm a bit lost, but yes I'm a Rob too :) It was me who talked about the TRP's and timings. I agree with you most (almost all) TRP's will be unregistered, and therefore THERE WILL BE AN ERROR!

The ARTY claim to be able to acurately land a shell on any grid reference given to them, my (limited) experiance is that most people cannot give an accurate Grid Reference to 8 figures. Luck and training effect this.

Cheers

So you're not Robert Crandall!? Okay, one of you has to quit signing off with "Cheers, Rob"

What? You mean you can't locate that tree in the middle of a huge field to within ten meters?

Hey Byron, since I'm named after my father perhaps I could lessen the confusion by signing as "Rob, Jr." Then you wouldn't think I was the esteemed "jrcar"?

Nah, too much work. Confusion is a good thing - I tell myself that every day.

Cheers, Rob.

Oh I can locate it, and I can give it a grid reference all right... and the GR will be precise to 8 (or 10) figures.... it just won't be accurate :)

Not many people grasp the difference between precision and accuracy.

Then we can start talking spheroids, geoids and how a flat map represents a round (and irregular surface) accurately (short answer it doesn't :) )

One thing I learnt very early on in my surveying career, the world IS NOT round... neither is it flat... its sort of lumpy like a spud... thankfully I got out of mapmaking a long time ago before I lost all of my faculties :)

Cheers

Well RobC

Being originally from Idaho I can relate to the world being a big Spud:)

I know what you mean by maps being inaccurate. I think there are over 250 different map set types out there each with varying degrees of accuracy. It's only recent that the US military had finally adopted a single standard..WGS 84. So that way if we are messed up...we're all messed up alike:)
