I actually already have HOI3 but have never played it. Where might I find the counters mod?

good question as I just got HOI III for $4.99 on gamersgate and might be interested in this.

It only works with Their Finest Hour version which requires the others.

Shows some talent, however I'm not to keen to be honest. Abit to much going on in them. At games above Squad..maybe platoon scale I prefer good looking counters but no pics of tanks or soldiers on them. I like Decisive Campaigns counters look good and all the info and colour coding that helps with play and I also liked shock horror SSG counters as I did like the actual division patch being shown on them.

Yeah, I'm a nato guy myself at this scale, especially if there are a lot of different kinds of units. It would never work for a game like WiF. But I do like these and theyre a nice break from the stock ones. I loaded up SSG's Battlefront to refresh my memory of their counters, but it looks terrible because of the resolution.

For someone as Colour-Blind as me, this makes things much easier. Heck just because of that I will go play a quick round of HI3 just to see how they look!

For those looking for more info on these counters here is the link (and if this is not permitted, please tell me so): http://www.hoi3wiki.com/Francescos_Counters

It is much harder to think about doing something than actually doing it!

Well that's kind of crappy only making a mod that works if you buy everything. Makes me think the modder and Johan had something going. I don't need the graphics face lift that bad, I probably won't ever play the thing anyways. Just got it for the collection factor of it anyways. Came with a few DLC's but not all of them. That was like $20 I think or more.

I could be wrong about only being for tfh. Check out their forum. I seriously doubt there was any kind of collaboration. That's crazy talk. There are a ton of mods out there.

Im taking this winter off and I realley think I should revisit HOI3,its totally stable on my laptop, many mods and fully patched.IMHO its a lot more detailed and grognard compared to anything here on a grand strategy global level.

Well there certainly isn't a lot of competition out there. At least none with an ai. As far as patched up? Yes, they're done releasing patches for it. That part I'm not crazy about. If that laptop is running 64 bit windows 7, it might not be as stable as you hoped it would be, although some user created programs have indeed helped to stabilize it. I'd recommend weekly autosaves. I believe they will soon announce hoi4, most likely in January.

IF WiF was stable with an ai, it would be the definitive grog global war game. But right now that's a big if.

I don't think you can go wrong bairdlander with HoI3. I was playing the original one before I ever started coming here and it holds a special place for me still even with all it's flaws. I bought the other 2 with all the ad dons but never got far with them. Seemed like there was always another game I was playing at the time, mostly Matrix games. If it were a turn based gamed probably enjoy it more too but I think I'll be getting back to it soon.

Btw, are you living abroad? Looks like things at the NSA are getting shaken up and we might be able to preserve our 4th amendment rights, something those on the right(me) and on the left (you) should always be able to agree on.

I have to disagree, as Making History I & II has all the detail of HOI's and a smart ai.l I've never met a HOI I couldn't beat but this ai in Making History really is aggressive. The USA attacked me in Brazil, the HOI series AI never did that.

Tried it and didn't care for it.

Same as I felt about all the HOI's ever since the 1st one. I've waited till they were $5 or less on all of them. I actually think II was the best and with all it's DLC. III was a horrible release. I'll never forget that one. So many people made a Hitler Youtube about it, they were so funny.

What isnt funny is the 38 score that MH2 received from Metacritic. Yikes. Just slightly lower than the bomb Air Conflicts: Vietnam and Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2.

Different strokes for different folks for sure.

Actually, Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2 got a score of 51. More than a few points higher than MH2.

You mean this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LamgAfVj ... 1387327680 ?

e: (oh you mean the Hitler in the bunker video. Still, my link is the best HOI3 video anyone ever made)

The problem with HOI3 is that it doesn't know if it wants to be a wargame or a grand strategy game and in trying to do both it ends up being not particularly good at either (it's an object lesson of the risks of ignoring a strong theme of a game in favour of piling on layer after layer of complexity). The current version is certainly playable (it wasn't on release) but it isn't really fun like HOI2 was.

Agree Alchenar, that's what I thought too. I just never could get into the HOI's like i could the Making History turn based games that were quite simuliar. Plus the ai was really good. I also played Italy on just hard and the US thrashe my arse up the boot. (Pun intended) lol To me most realistic full WWII game I ever played. Of course I still have yet to play WIF because they didn't put an AI in it. Must be pretty boring to play solo.

It is not for everyone, that is for sure. Even when it does have an AI, that statement will hold true. It is a VERY complex game. I am new to the system, but the thing that has attracted me to it is the fact that the system is tried and true through years of refinement. I figured if that many people still play it after all this time there must be something worth investing the time to learn the system. I'm still not there yet, but it is an amazing game.

Like I said before, different strokes for different folks. If you were looking to score some points by dissing a game you think I am married to, you have failed. Boring solo play? Not for me it isn't. Does it still have issues even solo? Yes. But point me to a game of this complexity that has been adapted to computer. There aren't any. While there are some remaining netplay issues, I believe they will be wrapped up soon as per the programmer Steve. If you want a sense of how deep the game is check out the AAR section. Again, it has a large following through the decades for a reason.

I have Hearts of Iron 3. I bought some of the extras, but it crashes a lot, and sometimes the mods won't work. Common Weapons of WW2 I think I could never get to work correctly. Anyway, I bought it on sale when I bought it and got some value out of it. I played it fairly deeply into a campaign. Russia took over all of Europe after beating Germany, and I was gearing up as the USA to take them on. But, then I got bored after making some landing in Southern France.

I experienced many crashes also. The other day I installed a user made program that doubles the available memory for the exe and have not had any so far, although I haven't played much. HoI3 is decent. Not great imo but not horrible either. If they would streamline certain things while expanding others AND make it turn based, Id probably enjoy it more.
