Here in T4 the news string is that the aircraft are grounded but a glance at the air display thingie at the bottom shows the aircraft active
and ready for missions. Is there an event broken or something. I actually used one of the planes to target something. I didn't attack
but I could have. I've decided to give the guys an hour of sleep before I send them out again. So almost everybody got the night off.
I kept advancing south on the east side even during the wee hours of the morning. In the morning there should be some German
opposition but right now they are no shows on the east side.

Here's the West side in T5. I'm not getting anywhere w/ this side. The German resistance is too strong. I'm just losing people attacking
here. But the Germans are losing some too and I'm doing just one dot attacks so I'm going to keep doing it just in case it finally works.

This is the T5 East side. There was such little resistance that I was able to reach the East edge of the map and now I'm pressing south.
I didn't run into any German main-stream combat units until I got past the river at the bottom of the image. And now there's plenty of
resistance.......more than the troops there can deal with. But more troops are headed south to take up the slack and help out.

Here's the East side in T6. I'm running into heavy resistance the further south I go. The attacks are relatively bloodless so I need to
get a surround on a unit before you're talking heavy losses. So far so good.

Here's the West side in T8. Progress has come to a halt. Elmer has moved some Hefty Panzers into the front lines and they are killing
my troops. I've got the arty turned on and the planes are helping somewhat but it's looking like heavy losses are being dished out. And
needless to say we're going nowhere fast on this advance. It's ground to a halt everywhere. WWI all over again. I'm resting the tanks
so as to get them into prime condition before I throw them into the front lines to try to get something moving again.

I'm thinking about disbanding Dempsey to simulate him being recalled to London to SHAFE headquarters to explain to Ike what went
terribly wrong.

Here's the East side in T8. For some reason it was important to run the paratroopers south to the river and just "placehold" for a while
and not get heavily engaged in combat. But nnnnnooooooo. The Germans are comitting several Panzer units to the front lines in just
the right places to chew up the paratroopers. And I don't have anyone to replace them just yet. I've got about a dozen units gathered
around Dempsay to get refit and ready for action again. But they are still wimpy and aren't combat worthy yet. So the paratroopers
will have to hold the line for a bit longer.

Here's the supply situation on the East side. What is needed is a railroad from Caen to convey the supplies needed by the paratroopers.
The supply level is too low to attack or defend on the East side for very long. Certaintly not for constant combat like we have now.

Here's the losses after about 8 turns. I'm amazed that I haven't lost any planes yet. The Spitfires I can understand because I haven't
been flying them....they are on permanent AS and that's because I'm not building any more Spitfires and I don't have all that many. But
the Typhoons have been flying since the beginning of the game and sometimes multiple times each turn. And I'm using the AA-patched
exe for my game engine. Maybe nothing is wrong with that. I'm just amazed I haven't lost any Typhoons is all.

Judging from the previous post it's obvious to me that I can fly the Spitfires w/o fearing I'm going to lose them all. I can even put them on
INT missions at the one-dot level and trust them to do the right thing. I've got a lot of the Typhoons on CS because of all the Panzers
at the front. My troopers need all the help they can get. And so far the Germans haven't shown any air power at all, so I'm pretty sure
I don't need any AS for a while at least. Anyway, here's the missions for the squadrons.

I've discovered that a lot of CS help out tremendously at the front. The Germans are consistently loosing more than I am in most of the
attacks. Sometimes I lose nothing at all. I can use the land combat units as bait to get the Germans to attack them so that my CS can
cream the attackers. It works for me if I lose nothing at all each time. Anyway, here's the weather report news string. All that heavy rain
is going to interfere w/ my CS plans. I'd best not use the bait ploy yet. I gotta remember to check the weather in the hex I'm attacking
before I attack, if I ever have to attack again, so as to maximize the outcome. No CS, no attack in other words.

I was wondering if CS would make the difference in a battle between some 17 pounder guns and the German 88's. So I checked the
weather to see if CS was a possibility and it ( the hex ) looks to be clear to me. That implies that CS is possible in that hex. So unless
I dedicate a squadron to do the CS for me ( a good idea now that I think of it ) I can count on a high probability that one of the squadrons
will come to my aid and pound the German 88's for me. Hmmmm.....maybe this isn't such a good idea after all. Forget I said anything.

It's T9 and that means it's morning time and the Germans left a hole and I ran some engineers to the break in the lines and conveyed
a couple of regiments and some tanks across the river into the rear areas of the Germans. We're hoping this doesn't turn into a
disaster. What w/ the bad weather and all I'm not sure I can pull this off but we're going to try.

The news is slightly misleading. Not all aircraft are grounded on night turns, a few can still fly. But far less compared to the daytime :

Here's the West side in T11. I've gotten a lot of the Canadians across the river and I'm in severe contact w/ the German forces but
we're making slight progress slowly. I've gotten the use of the planes back and I'm using them all over the map ( INT ) to qwell the
forces of evil.

East side front lines in T12: Still no progress. No supply = no attacks. I wish I could move the supply units closer to my paratroopers.

OK. Now it's getting to be spooky. It's T13 already and there's STILL no losses of aircraft. Of either kind. And I've been flying the
wings off the planes. I'm using the AA-patched ( 3.4.0.202 base core ) exe and there's supposed to be some aircraft losses UNLESS
the German units aren't firing back at my planes. And I've seen other scenarios that have German units and those German units
usually have organic AA arty, expecially the HQ units. And I've been occasionally hitting some of the HQ units. I'm just asking. I'm not
saying your scenario is broke, Steve, but it just seems odd that there's no aircraft losses. And I have no good ideas about why that is.

And another thing. When you use the attack planner dohicky under the support column there's no room for aircraft since there's so
much arty that can be committed. Sometimes the majority of the arty units have the red X through them meaning that they are
available but not deployed for attacking or defending and unemployed in any other way. So to get the aircraft to help out a particular
combat you have to dedicate the squadron manually. Not a really big problem really.

I don't know why there are no aircraft losses, but I don't particularly care. This scenario isn't about aircraft, and there are no German planes at all. In post #3 of the Goodwood thread I talked about the aircraft, not much to say though.

You've pointed out one problem, concerning the northern flank. Rather than have the player go thru the tedium of manually doing the initial carpet bombing, I didn't include those air units and instead I gave the Germans 40% shock on the first turn, 80% on turn 2. I think this works well, except it puts the German units on the north flank at a disadvantage as they weren't bombed. So I've put an Excluded Zone there for the next version. The Zone drops on turn 3.
