Repairing small garrions is for free. So if you want to wage a war of attrition, take normal garrisons and hope for a -1/0.

Housies, You see what I see in the above SS. What you don't see on the AI turn, is the SG retreating. The garrison to it's west takes the SG's hex. The AI knows the SG will not holdup from a combined arms attack next turn. Quite often an SG will retreat, after taking a 2 or more step loss.

On my turn, the garrison get's hammered by the English airships and French fighter on it's "unentrenched" hex. General Petan (I think) led the infantry charge to wipe out the German garrison, leaving the German infantry to it's west isolated and to be eliminated the next turn.

If I had not picked on the SG in the first place, the above opportunity would not have happened. Attacks have to made now before winter sets in and before a unit entrenches.

OK, I keep trying, and failing, to swap armies. There is no drag, when I try the map moves [&:]
All-right, try this:
Requirement needed to switch;
1. that there is no prior movement by the 2 units you want to swap in any form.
2. that neither unit has been updated before switch
3. that neither unit has been repaired before switch.
4. you cannot switch a ground unit with an air unit.
5. ships can be switched.
6. both units have to be CP if you are commanding CP.
7. No combat (attacking) with either unit before switch.

Now you should be able to switch (swap)......

Procedure to switch:
1. Press and hold down Crtl key.
2. Hold curser over one or the other units to be switched.
3. click it.
4. Switching arrows should appear.
5. Move arrows from unit to the one next to it, . (kinda wave it over)
5. Units should have switched.

Personally, I had a problem with this movement, when I first got started and fully understand your frustration[;)]. It's so simple to do, you will kick yourself in the arse, that you did not think of it eariler[:)].

Let me know how you make out, Good Luck........

OK, still not happening.

Unit A & B are right next to one another, start of the turn.
Press & hold CNTRL
Click on Unit A. Unit A highlights.
Hover mouse over Unit B. Arrows appear.
Still holding CNTRL, I click on unit B. Active icon shifts to unit B
Beats head on key board

Doesn't work [:(]

Click A, hold CNTRL, hover over B, arrows appear, click B, active ICON shifts to B

Hold CNTRL, click A, hover B, arrows appear, click B, active ICON shifts to B

Click A, hold CNTRL, hover over B, arrows appear, release & hit CNTRL again, click B, active ICON shifts to B

Left click anything anywhere in any process kills the process

<edit>

Holy $#@! it has to be the LEFT Cntrl!!

Yeah, using the right CNTRL fails, using the left CNTRL does.

Thx, mate. I would have given up before now. [&o] But I think I'll just take the dog for a walk. Twenty miles & I think my brain will function again. BTW, I am getting messages that due to attrition etc. my production & MP pools are decreasing. I expected to probably over run my PP & MP from going through that website tool, but I have just been maintain & upgrading. Anyway to improve on this, or is this just part of attrition?

The only time to worry is when your stat #s go from yellow to orange for each individual nation, even worse is going from orange to red, that's bad, in the lower left window.

Nations that have black or yellow #s have an efficiency rating of 10 for new units, orange is 8, red is the pits (never been there).

What determines the colors (lower left window): Is the percentages in the upper right window.

90 % and up numbers stay black
80 to 90 % numbers go yellow
70 to 80 % numbers go orange
below 70 % numbers go red

Current units will stay the same efficiency as long as you repair them.

Economic %ages go down with the loss of cities or damage to cities, also from building of units, so beware of building too many units.

My right hand Ctrl key has dust on it.
<edit>
Yes, combat losses (attrition) factors into a country's readiness, pick your small battles carefully, try and not throw MP away, unless it's a desperate situation, or worthy cause (encirclement). Unless you have the upper hand, I would suggest "not" to do winter assaults (let the other guy, try and break your lines in winter).

I get the switching arrows automaticly under 1.4.2 when I mouse over an adjacent unit. Do not have to press anything [:)]

Select A
Move mouse over adjacent unit
Switching arrows appear
click B and units switch

Does not work that way for me. Are you telling the forum, that you are doing a swap without using the left Ctrl key? In my instructions to do a swap, I neglected to mention the use of the "left" Ctrl key, for I never gave it any thought to use the right Ctrl key and did not expect that anybody else use it either, especially if a player is using a mouse and keyboard at the same time, unless they are ambidextrous.

In the screenshot I have the unit on the right selected and the mouse is hovering over the unit on the left and the arrows automaticly show up for me. No keyboard involved at all.

The arrows are there, but the units have not swapped hexes. It's good to click a unit to see if it is eligible to swap, but that is all that is happening, before you actually go to the next step of swapping hexes.
<edit>
When you highlight a unit, "white corners around hex", you are clicking it. How you click it? Never used a hotkey for this, if there is one.

I am making a point [:)]

Again the units WILL swap places if I clicked on the unit on the left without any keyboard involvement. Swapping units is completely mouse driven. Click A move mouse ove B until arrows appear and then click B. The units will swap. It has worked this way since I got the game but do not know if it was via a patch or part of the initial release.

I've tried to use your method a few times now, with no success (always need L-Ctrl key). It would be interesting to find out if others are having the same experience as you. For that would mean there are 2 sets (variations) of directions for doing the same task. FYI, I been playing CTGW since Dec. 2012 or Jan. 2013, numerous updates. I'd hate to be giving someone directions, that would be wrong for their game version, OR, if in MP could be a game stopping BUG.

Finally figured out why our 2 ways of swapping differed: On page 29 of the manual it describes the difference between "single button scheme" and the "double button scheme" control, which has to do with the preference a player chooses to operate their games.[:)]

<edit>
Details about scheme buttons on page 16 of manual.
