Sorry - what was the breaking news? That when you go offline, like...no internet right?...you can still play your Steam games?

Oh....ok. [:'(]

Dude what's the big deal. I've heard, for many years now, that you can play your Steam games offline. I never EVER once thought that meant that some part of Steam would not load because I would assume some (I had assumed ALL to be honest) games would have a hook in there. But as long as I can play them when my internet goes down - I have no concerns. So the Steam client loads? I'm not running 2MBs of RAM anymore. [8|]

By the way - this statement right here...
There they come ^^^ I knew they would show up! [:'(]

Oh my, yes, your nemesis I believe? That was long ago and far away.....

As for Steam, I love it, do not care what it loads, it fits all my needs and during holiday and summer sales one can buy many games for a mere pittance. If you do not like it, then do not use it. Kind of like anything really, do not like Crest then use something else....don't like Ford, buy something else...

Strikes me as humorous that people get so anti-DRM yet run Windows...

I also enjoy that it works on my Linux machines as well with more and more Linux games available each month.

Is that supposed to mean "I can say anything I want but do not respond in my thread?

Indeed. It's a smarty pants way of having your say without having anyone respond. There's the additional pat on the back that if anyone DOES come in to defend what they do, you predicted it. You were right. A "Bully for me" kind of thing.

But he got us....he was indeed right [8|]

Meh, that is okay. I have some 200+ games on Steam to wile away the hours and give me solace, most of which were bought for $5 or less during their sales. And.....I even get Steam codes for Slitherine/Matrix titles that provide them (but I do buy them through the Matrix storefront)!

Ever since they implemented regional pricing I can get games even cheaper. Allied Corps for 6 USD while it's on sale.

Oh no problem this thread will fall by the wayside anyways unless we get some pro Steam posters. I just wanted to inform the uninformed in case anyone didn't know about the Steam.exe *32 even offline program running in the background.

So first you are ranting about how bad Steam is,then you ask for a link to their sale in another thread, now you are complaining about Steam again in this thread.[8|]

So if it's in the running background when offline, so what?

I think you'll find that some posters are deliberately trying to not engage your point because it's rhetorically dishonest to say "all right! I've made a clickbait thread, now let the Steam fanboys come!" and then act all indignant when people actually try to defend Steam.

That is exactly what he does and what he's done here.

It's a very puerile tactic. [:-]

And he didn't even find anything ground breaking. There's no "point" to engage. As I said, I never thought that "offline" meant Steam would do nothing when you loaded a game. So what if it fires up a couple of apps. I've got 16GB of memory on my machine...the fact they are using a few MB is a non issue. These apps running don't stop me playing and that's exactly what I took "offline" to mean...that the internet could disappear and I'd still be able to play my games.

He's got absolutely no point to debate with and now he's just upset because he's wasted all that time finding out nothing.

Once again for the sake of arguement. Delete steam from your computer and then tell me these titles will run that require this Steam.exe *32 app. Some of you seem so hell bent that you'll have these games without the internet well let's see if you still have them "without" Steam client? That's what I was reporting about not that you have an app that is steams. It's the fact that these games "will not" run without the steam "client". Go ahead delete steam and tell me how they still run. These AAA titles exclusive to steam will not run without the steam client and that little app. That's the point of the whole thread. I'm sorry you can't "comprehend" what I intended for you to see in the very first place.

From the very first paragraph of my very first post:
Now, all you in favor of Steam that say you don't have to have steam to play your games offline. Take a look into your TASK MANAGER when you try to play that game "offline" by just clicking the application.exe icon (the icon that you press to usually load a game). Several things in the STEAM CLIENT LOAD into your task manger. Now, you say they will run without steam. Then delete steam from your computer and try to run those same programs. The Steam client exclusive ones like Rome II (AAA title) will not load or run.

See that Judge Dredd, did you even read it? If you had done what I typed you would have seen what I was talking about was/is correct. You just jumped to conclusions and started making accusations of which you didn't "think" before you spoke. Or even tried what I suggested. It's understandable though this is the internet many people do not read and then don't comprehend what they do read.

Mate you are full of self importance.

I read your post (and I truly wish I hadn't) and it's non news. It's nothing and the fact it's nothing shows you for what you are - a self important non prophet. You need the community to gather around you but you actually talk crap.

"Some of you seem so hell bent" really? Like what, you maybe? Of informing people of the evil that is Steam? You're news is nothing my friend. Absolutely nothing. It doesn't mean anything and you can't deal with that.

You accused me of not reading your post and jumping to conclusions and making accusations. I read your post and I'll say again - it's nothing ground breaking. I never ever once thought I would be able to play these games without Steam on my PC. I always assumed there was a hook there. I said that in my post. I also said I always took offline to mean just that - that without the internet I could play my games. I never thought I'd be able to play them without Steam.

The end result is - you can play Steam games offline.

I've never heard anyone suggest you could play Steam games without Steam installed - and that's not what "offline" ever meant to me anyway.

I remember someone had a phrase on their sig around here many years ago...it said
"Never argue with an idiot. He'll only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience"

And I'm ashamed to say - you did. Bully for you

I'm going to see if the Steam sale has started...see ye around. [>:]

At least as far as the last Steam thread I can recall, it was never being argued that all, or even most, games from Steam can run without Steam flat-out.

There are games that can run without an internet connection, but you still need to run them through the Offline Mode feature.

There are games that can run without an internet connection and also without Steam, altogether.

The level of DRM to be implemented on a game is determined by the publisher/developer as they talk to Valve about putting their game on Steam. Most games opt to take the former, and games falling into the latter category are a small minority.

I mean, yeah, if your argument is that "Steam will never be as truly low-DRM as [insert other company/distribution system here] because you literally need the client to run some games" then you would be correct for a vast majority of games. But that doesn't automatically apply to every game on Steam and every game that could be put on Steam.

If you want to claim some sort of high-ground for blowing it wide open that people can't play TW Rome 3 if they completely excise Steam from their computers then Congratulations.

I never said they run without Steam. Guess what? I do not give a hoot if they require Steam. If you do, then move on and use something else, buy something else, whine about something else.

What this was suppose to help and show that you could now see what games you'll always have from your library that will not require the steam client or steam.exe *32. When you load a game from steam just take a quick look into your task manager and if you do not see steam.exe *32 then no worries.

The neverending "argument" though has always been about if steam went belly up in other threads would you still maintain your steam games library. Not about being able to see which games don't require steam.

I even said in another post it would be nice if steam just put on the store page whether the game was steam exclusive or not. If they did that this process of checking wouldn't be necessary an of course I never would have posted it.

It's just a check feature I found.

Guys don't start a war here like I did in Paradox, or ended up getting tickets for the actions. I had enough craps from Paradox for harassments from Moderators. So becareful what you say here, some peoples can get off on the wrong side and start flaming.
