WHICH GAME WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE RELEASED NEXT?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

For me personally, I think the 'grand europa' development takes the game engine into all sorts of difficulties. Modelling the dynamics of the early war, keeping a balance between player freedom and locking them in, are all serious challenges to any strategic WW2 game. And there is no point in having the sort of historical details of this game system if it has gone well off the reservation by 1941.
I agree with you. Possibly, after a WitM 1940-43 game, an interesting course of action might be to develop a War in Europe 1940-1945, starting after the fall of France, before tinkering with the early war years (where, as you said, the danger of railroading the players' strategic decisions, negating the very purpose of starting in 1939, is very real).

Anyway it seems that the general consensus (or, at least, the opinions of those who posted in this thread) says that 2by3 should aim at a War in the Mediterranean 1940-43 as its next tile... while working in parallel on a WitE 2.0 [;)]

So, if all goes well, we'll have WitM 1940-43 in 2016, WitE 2.0 in 2017 and WiE 1940-45 by the end of 2018. [8D]
But, maybe, my prediction is overly optimistic! [:D]

I agree with all stated above. The early war would be interesting but not in this scale - it should be a different system. Otherwise it would be just an unnecessary distraction before the real deal commences in 1941. I'm not a fan of science fiction, alternative scenarios like Germans conquering UK or Germans being stopped in France. In a realistic system, those outcomes wouldn't take place anyway. From the other hand, the Axis player could do much worst than in reality in terms of preparing for Barbarossa than it was historically. If it comes to the alternative, outcomes, I think that WITE 2 should have an optional Med/West reinforcement control, the way it has been done in WITW with the EF control. So the player could control the flow of ground and air units that are being sent to other theaters during the crucial moments ( for example air units during Moscow and Stalingrad campaigns, Italy reinforcements during Citadel or West reinforcements during Bagration ).
Lest we forget.

WitE 2.0 is on the top of my next list...but I'll take a North African Campaign add on for WitW.

Early war can't really be done without a Battle of the Atlantic and Norway, which both are big naval models. If the BOTA were just an off-map, off-screen thing similar to how Russia is handled in WitW, that would remove any interest in an early-war game for me.

With one week turns, naval abstraction will be unavoidable, and the BOTA is *ideally* treated with abstraction. Not abstracted as much as the EF box, of course-- which, let's face it, is only a kluge until the "combined" WITW/WITE monster is made (if ever)-- but something more akin to a naval version of the WITW air model to simulate convoys, U-boats, air patrols, etc., with resultant VP and supply impacts on the war. You can still have the "big fleets" as on-map counters for specific purposes, but the "daily grind" of the entire naval war is best modeled via a system than manually each turn.

BTW, with the introduction of the naval war into Europe, you're also going to need an abstracted "Pacific Front Box," no? Always going to be tradeoffs of what you put where...

I would like to see a 1940-43 War in Mediterranean like WitP AE. Regia Marina against Royal Navy and Regia Aeronautica against Royal Air Force

North Africa, followed by updating WITE to it's final conclusion, before beginning WITE2...
