wdolson,

A very quick and short search for Andy Mac brought up this thread

Post #19 from Andy states that the scripts can be changed but it won't affect an ongoing game.

I've always thought that the scripts were stored in the save file.  But I doubt that belief came only from the above linked post.  If you want I can spend some more time to try to find a more definitive Andy Mac statement on this issue.

The script is selected once only.

What is so difficult to comprehend.  You cannot achieve what you want to do.  Many players spend days, not a mere 7-8 hours, on their first move.  They also spend significant time subsequently on each turn.  Others spend a lot less time if they do not mind letting go of the micromanagement.

If this is difficult for you then really this game is not for you.  You should not waste any more time with it. as other, much more complicated issues will soon arise.

I'm not sure why my question offends you. Having spent the time it takes to setup an initial campaign turn, I was just wondering if there were a way to reuse it for subsequent starts against different AI plans. The time this would save on each start could be spent actually playing and learning the game.

If seems that this isn't possible, but of course I didn't know that before starting the thread.

Alfred is permanently annoyed maybe because he feels he is answering always the same questions.

One also needs to remember that AE was coded before the use of Matrix servers to store PBEM game came into existence.

That is a positive! Personally I'm not a fan of companies making their games dependant on them connecting/using their equipment as it is a business and those resources will disappear at some point.

Paul: I'd suggest running a few turns of computer vs. computer. After that you can assess whether the direction of the game is to your liking before investing a lot of time.

Personally, I usually do a computer vs. computer (on continuous turns) for several months in order to get a better challenge.

Alfred, my friend. Gonna have to do this one last time. Here's how it works:

You launch the game and pick a scenario and the engine consults the AI files associated with that scenario and picks one. Totally random and not at player discretion. The engine keeps the selected AI file in it's pocket and lets the player make any and all moves they wish. But once a player hits the "yes" button, everything, and I do mean Everything, is cast in perma-crete.

The engine generates a Savegame file that has the initial selected AI scripts cast in stone. It can neither be edited nor adjusted. What you see is what you get. AndyMac has a thread somewhere that says what some AI numbers do historically, and what some numbers are for the, uh, different people among us.

Scenarios and Scripts are NOT portions of the executable. Scenarios and Scripts are separate from one another. Woof!! I could do a serious Bokonon Calypso on this, but then ....
