Something major, I think. More than 500 German aircraft destroyed in Italy, including 350 on the ground.

Turn 18 VP’s this turn: -3 Total: -78
Troop ships lost: 100 Cargo: 452

Large landing just south of Rome and a small one on the heal.
The LW comes to life and puts close to 1000 planes over the landing area close to Rome.

This is the screen shot before 19th Army moves.
All the ports are defended heavy and LW interdiction is 99 in all sea hexes near ports
and landing areas. LW transferred 400 more fighters from Germany to Italy.
Rommel has 9SS with 24 CV in a perfect position and

9th SS PD drives 1st BR ID into the sea, then drives back the 6th BR AB Division.
Then the 9th SS and 4th Fallschirmjaeger drive the 3rd CA and 3rd US ID’s
back into the sea with heavy loses. Hopefully the port can hold out for a turn.
WA’s have taken very heavy loses to troop ships.

Turn 19 VP’s this turn: -38 Total: -116
Troop ships lost: 146 Cargo: 533
Massive air battles over the landing area and sea lanes and WA’ suffer heavy troop ship losses.
4 assaults are made by LVIII Panzer Corp on both sides of the encircled port of Anzio, but both fail with very close results. IF one would have won the landing was surely doomed.
Good turn for WAs for sure.

I think the lack of SU's in those WA divisions makes them easy targets to rout. If those two Canadian divisions had had SU's, you may not have got them to rout, and spliting your invasions never pans out.

SU's are huge, but I am guessing he wanted to transport more "troops" so cut them back or out altogether.

and sadly he doubled down on splitting invasions. He had heal and a small landing to north west of the Anzio landing and then on turn 20(not posted yet) he did another small landing.

I think DT's landing spot was better then carlkeys, but still over reaching.

The troopship losses are piling up every time I route divisions of a beachhead. No routes low loses, but every route is huge losses in troop ships in an area with 99 interdiction.

It didn't help that he landed right in the middle of your best Korps.[;)] Recon flights are essential, but you have to be careful not to over do them in an area before an invasion so you don't give your invasion away before you land. It's essential to know what your facing and deciding if your going to actually hit the "invade" button.

I thought the Ju 88s were nice at naval interdiction, and then I tried a few He 111s - Wow! and that's with auto load-outs and no tweaking whatsoever...

I always hold my 2nd best Corp near Rome, granted the best division is part of it.
My best and largest Panzer Corp is spread out in Southern Italy. The units near Rome are more then enough to hold a huge
invasion like the one Carlkey did while waiting for XIV Corp to drive them into the sea.

In this case DT did what I consider a med invasion, so the one SS division was enough to really disrupt the landings and almost drive it into the sea.

To DT's credit his invasion was a complete surpise and a bold move on his part.

Turn 20 VP’s this turn: -32 Total: -148
Troop ships lost: 181 Cargo: 580
Again massive battles over the landing area and another 35 troop ships are sent to the bottom for a total of 81 troop ships sunk in just 3 turns. Also the VP’s are pilling up.

XIV Corp breaks the siege of Anzio and routes 3 WA divisions which take massive losses. At this point Rommel decides to play it safe and try and simply hold the lines, hoping the LW can keep control of the sky’s over the landing area. 2 fresh GDs arrive this turn so next turn if the lines hold the landings can be finished off. Also 2 full WA divisions are cut off in the foot hills to the north east of Anzio. I am guessing very few supplies are getting through to the landing area which is why the very poor showing in the final defending CV.
