Dr Who
I'm amazed you are letting all those F/Tainan expert pilots fly to their deaths prematurely in those crappy Claudes. Not that they won't die an honourable death in a Zero...
Is Tanaka getting paid overtime?

Scenario 17
Hi, A lot of early action for a scenario 17. I'm too skittish as allies in May 42. I just want to train.
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!
Ron: The Claudes ware supposed to perform a specific mission before being sent back to get something more modern.
Mogami: I mailed to you and said I'd give you your money's worth of action but you declined..
Nothing much happening right now. Ross is giving my pilots live practice at Lae:

Still nothing spectacular to report. I sank two MSW in PM harbour.

Now before you start running around and shouting that drwho is a lucky bastard take this into account:
a) Cotrary to what Ross said earlier in this thread, he didn't send his CV-TF to Noumea, but quickly slipt it to Townsville to get fuel.
b) The above was keenly monitored by the IJN.
c) If you keep hanging your TF around a certain spot (approx 7 hex S-SE of PM) you are asking for trouble.
d) Ross did the above.
e) 8 IJN subs hunting are bound to find the trouble mentioned.
Naturally the commander of SS I-17 get's sent to Tokyo for some major celebrations + decorations + a meeting with the Emperor.

Voila!
"...when he moved his CV-TF North West of Port Moresby. I'd never do that. Mario Vallée did that to me and I sunk both Yorktown and Lexington in an instant..." ; drwho
My main prob. , "that time", was my previous night attack on Lea airfield did not work at all. Was it the same mess with you Ross?
I did not have this trouble in owr next game because Lea is still a base but not a airfield thank to my B-17. :p
I must say; Anssi Sallinen & Marc Balasko are the best players I have play so far. And I have play a lot

Mario: thanks for the compliment, you aren't a bad player yourself.
Ross has started to bombard Lae at night with Hudsons and Beauforts. Practically no results, 12 guys killed last night with no hits on the airfield.
Also looks like we are going to see some ground combat. Ross has steadily been moving troops toward Lae. He also moved a unit of infantry to Buna last turn so something is brewing also there.

And action for a change. I've devised by my own a most evil tactic for using AV's - I use them as convoy raiders. This raid wasn't really good as I usually score 4 to 5 bomb hits on about four ships per raid when using 3 AV's. For some reason my F1M2 Pete's didn't participate even when they ware well in range of the TF.

Still no F1M2 Pete's attacking.. I'm really starting to wonder why because previously (in other games) they did good damage when they attacked. My other AV was one hex away from Ross'es TF.
Jake's have 60kg bombs but Pete's have only 30kg, but they scored more hit's so the cumulative damage was greater.

Float planes are nice little buggers..
Getting hectic again. Great flying weather as it's been clear for 3 to 4 days in a row now and looks like we are going to have good weather still for atleast a day or so. I'm looking forward for some more air combat above Lae.

Looks like Ross made a mistake (care to comment Ross?) and for some reason left New Orleans at Noumea harbour already badly damaged. 6 torps later it sunk. 40 points of score to me and I'm happy for that.

No air acitivity around Lae, seems Ross'es pilots started to complain about being shot down all the time and demanded some R&R which Ross gave them. Too bad, all my squadrons at Lae are now 80+ EXP and they would gladly have a few EXP points more. Captured USN/RAAF pilots are also great fun for my troops at Lae because they scream like girls when burned with hot iron.

Ross formed a CV-TF from his two damaged carriers at Townsville and started to move it towards Brisbane just off the Great Barrier Reef. Again, my excellent scouting ability was able to monitor this move and I sent a few CSs & AVs to hunt him down. Yorktown caught four hits destroying AA mounts and causing widespread panic among the crew. Walke was leaving Brisbane harbour unescorted and caught two hits from my Daves. It's reported that the crew hoisted a white flag after the attack by my brave pilots.
The flag was machinegunned from my Daves.

Drwho, aren't you worried about getting nailed by his LB's on the East coast of Australia? How close did your TF's get to them?
In my battle with Toro-san, that crafty little devil keeps hugging the barrier reef between Cairns and Cooktown, making me wary of getting close enough to attack him with my CV TF that is in the area. Part of me wants to rush right in and force a battle, yet the thought of his LB's getting a crack at my CV's makes me balk.

UV has this feature that I'm not quite sure is realistic. You can see which base has aircraft in it and which does not. Ross doesn't have any aircraft in bases south of Townsville so raiding him a few hexes away from Brisbane is quite safe. ;D
