Added the Federation construction ship to the mod ....see in picture below.
When adding the Federation Explorer ship and in trying to keep to the timeline of the Kirk era, the Hermes Class was the original explorer ship until it was replaced by Constitution class ships like the Enterprise with 5 year missions to explorer where no man has gone before.
As I already have the Constitution class as the Federation Cruiser I am leaving the Hermes class in at the moment as the Explorer ship...pending further research.

RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
I am now adding the Imperial Klingon States to the mod.
The IKS was formed during the 4 year war when an ambitious Klingon Admiral failed to seize control of the Klingon Empire and was exiled to a zone called the Triangle from which the IKS bided it's time and grew in preparation for another attempt to takeover the Empire.
While hostile to the Klingon Empire, the IKS was equally hateful towards the Federation and living in The Triangle which is bordered by the Klingons, Romulans and Federation there are plenty of skirmishes between the 3 as well as with Orion pirates and smugglers.
The map below gives an idea where The Triangle is and where the IKS are based in relation to the other races.

RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
For creating this mod I am using detailed star maps of the Star Trek universe.... with planets for the different races and for each system in the United Federation of Planets....eg Vulcan, Orion, Andorian, Mutara, Fuicus, Omicron and so on. I need to look at whether it is possible to create the official Star Trek map with planets, systems, etc in their correct place. If so, how to do this. I am assuming this is not possible due to the random placements at the start of the game.
I just wanted to note that the location of the Tholians and Gorn are different in the map with the previous post. The locations on the prior map for these 2 are wrong and are shown correctly on the map on this post. The prior map shows the correct location of The Triangle.
With the map below, the left side of the United Federation of Planets is in the Alpha quadrant and the right hand side is in the Beta Quadrant.
After watching Star Trek for 40 years there were a few things I never knew until doing this mod.I had always assumed that the story told of TOS was told from the alpha Quadrant but in fact I was assuming wrong.
Earth is actually on the border between the Alpha and Beta Quadrant is home to the Vulcans, Andorians, Orions, Bolians, Son'a, Risians, Organians, Coridan, Axanar, Nausicaans, Suliban, Gorn and others.
For the Federation to battle either the Romulans or Klingons they would be in the Beta Quadrant and not in the Alpha Quadrant. If the Federation were attacking the Cardassians or Ferengi, then they would need to be in the Alpha Quadrant.
Based on this, I am going to change the title of the mod tomorrow from Star Trek - The Alpha Quadrant Wars to Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before.
Will the Cardassians and Ferengi be in the mod?
With the Cardassians they were mentioned in an episode of Star Trek : Enterprise in the episode "Dead Stop" where :
Among the many alien bodies are a Klingon, a Vulcan, a Cardassian, a Xepolite, a species that closely resembles the Vaadwaur, and a member of Kago-Darr's species. This marks the only appearance of the Cardassians in Star Trek: Enterprise, although they are later mentioned in ENT: "Observer Effect".
With the Ferengi, they boarded the Enterprise in Season 1 Episode 19 "Acquisition" but they were never called Ferengi as the official first contact with them was in the TNG era.
So both Cardassians and the Ferengi were met by the Federation pre TOS era so could be in the mod.... but I will need to consider this as there are so many choices of races that can appear in the mod already.
Roy
EDIT:
Page 81 of the modding guide indicates I can create the galaxy map as long as I keep below 1400 stars. Will have a look at this over the coming weeks.
I can also add events and create a story line. This could be interesting as I have a detailed star trek time line I am editing at the moment and could add to the mod to make it realistic.

RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
To make the Star Trek galaxy map I have worked out how to add the map to the background image.......
The next step is to clear out all the stars, asteroids, systems, planets etc and as far as I can see I do the following
1. Create a new file, save it as a TOS game file
2. Go into the editor and remove the stars, planets etc one at a time
3. When I have all existing objects removed from the map
- decide if the Cardassians will be in the mod
- decide if the Ferengi will be in the mod
- adjust background map with Star Trek map according to above decisions
4. Load Star Trek map into background and start adding systems, stars, planets, etc
The only thing I am trying to find out is if I can clear all stars, planets, etc from the saved game file all at once or do I need to remove them one at a time...a lengthy process.
Anyway.... please let me know if you think the Cardassians and Ferengi should be in the mod.

The first 2 sectors have been added to the mod map of the Alpha and Beta quadrants.
- Vulcan system
- Sol System
2 done...130 more sectors to add.
With Vulcans system there are 19 planets in this system and I have not added all of them as I do not know if there is a limit I can reach.

The planet Vulcan......one of 3 planets in the Vulcan system including Delta Vega from the movie (from where Spock saw the destruction of Vulcan in alternate timeline era)
The planet image came from the 2009 movie and in the top right of the picture is the landscape picture for Mount Seleya which was seen in Star Trek 2 and Star Trek 3.

Romulus and Remus systems added to the Romulan Star Empire.......
As you see in the map there are around 27 systems in the Romulan Empire so I can probably finish mapping them tomorrow.
Klingon Empire similar and probably finish in 2 days time.
The Federation on the other hand has hundreds of systems for me to map....this could take 2 to 3 weeks just to do the federation systems.

RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
Last night I mapped the Romulan sector containing their home world of Romulus.
I then completed the Klingon sector with the Klingon home world of Qo'noS
These are shown as completed in the map.
As this mod can be played using the map where all the races will have their home planets in their correct systems, not random, if you are playing the Federation you will always start out from Earth in the Sol system. The way I am playing this mod is that you have random enemies so you do not know who is going to be around. So as the terrans you expand right and you may or may not meet the Romulans..... or instead of Romulans you may meet Klingons who expanded up into Romulan space.
And if you are unlucky you may find by going south to the Mutara sector (bottom left of this picture) that you are met by no other than Khan Noonien Singh at Ceti Alpha V. Khan has now been added to the mod and you can see where he will be found if he is one of the random races in the game.
This picture shows how close Khan is to Terran space...as well as to Klingons if he should try and pick a fight with them.
The map here of the Beta Quadrant shows what will clearly be a hotspot of activity in the mod with the Terrans, Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons and Khan all shown here.....and of course we have the Orions in the middle of the lot.
You can of course play Distant Worlds Universe with any races you want and random starting locations and still use my map.

RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
Khan Noonien Singh is now well and truly in the mod and he will more than likely be a major issue for you in combat.
Yesterday I had posted that Khan would be based at Ceti Alpha V...... however this timeline is before the time when Kirk meets Khan so Khan would certainly not be at Ceti Alpha V at all.
The official story goes that Khan and his crew were released from their sleep by an unknown race and Khan has set them up on an unknown planet where he continues his plans to dominate the galaxy..... his plan being the Eugenic Wars 2.
If Khan had won the original Eugenics War he would have been a serious threat to the Klingons and would have wiped out the Romulan Empire..... With the defeat of the Romulans, the Augments then began conquering more species. Races such as the Breen and Tholians were conquered at the hands of the Children of Khan. Vulcans, Andorians, Betazoids and Trill were next and eventually the Klingon Empire fell to Khan. This resulted in an alliance between the Bajoran and Cardassian races who sought to fight against the genetically engineered Humans who were the stronger power between the two factions.
These are the plans of Khan Noonien Singh in this mod and he and his Augments will be a major force. They will not be based at Ceti Alpha V but will be based on a random location.
I photoshopped a picture of Khan on his spaceship which may or may not be the Botany Bay herself. The only pictures of TOS era Khan around were of him on the Enterprise so I needed to create a new picture of him.
Though Khan and his followers made up a race that would have been known as the Children of Khan, I am calling them Khans Augments in the mod.

RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
Now started mapping Federation space....huge task with number of systems in the Federation. I will be working hard on the mapping today and hopefully have the entire Beta Quadrant mapped within the next 24 to 48 hours. At that stage I will start posting some other things I am working on plus an idea that I have which will make Distant Worlds even more Star Trekky and similar to the tv series and movies... have to see if it works.
With the timeline of the mod I am looking at the idea that the existing members of the Federation have not yet aligned with the Terrans so that Vulcan, the Andorians, Tellarites, Andarians and so forth will need to be brought across to the Federation via Diplomacy.
As this mod is set after the First Contact is made with the Vulcans I need to look at the status Vulcan has with Earth...... I have an idea for the storyline which would explain why the members of the United Federation of Planets needs to be aligned with again and explain why at the same time I am not in Jonathan Archer's era and in the era just prior to Kirk.
There will be 2 story lines to this mod depending on whether you are playing with the map where Terrans, Klingons, Romulans etc start out at Earth, Qo'Nos and Romulus or start out from another planet.
That is the great thing about Star Trek is that stories like this are possible by using intervention or actions by a person or a race which effects the entire galaxy.

Building the Andorian sector.......
When I have completed Version 1 of the map I will go in later and add a number of star systems into the Klingon and Romulan space where the star system was previously unnamed but I have since found their names.
This will give the Romuluans and Klingons more systems to colonize...but they will both most likely try to invade each other or the Federation and take their space.
Janus VI which I have just added here , bottom left of the Andorian sector, is of course where the Horta are based.... Horta being the silicon based lifeform that were featured in Devil in the Dark.

Only 7 more sectors of Federation space in the Beta Quadrant remaining to be mapped.
Alpha Quadrant will begin to be mapped tomorrow
Alpha Quadrant will begin to be mapped tomorrow
RE: Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before - TOS Era
Finished mapping Federation, Klingon and Romulan space in the Beta Quadrant...... I will add Tholian spaces etc as I add those races and will complete mapping the Alpha Quadrant next week.
(Green squares show the areas mapped into Star Trek - Where No Man Has Gone Before)
Today I will take a break from the mapping and work on adding more ships, characters and resources.
I have over 200 resources from the Star Trek world and I need to bring those down to 80 resources.
Looking at minerals alone, there were 125 minerals alone mentioned throughout each of the tv series and movies.
For this timeline in the mod I would look only at what was mentioned in Enterprise and in the TOS era.
Star Trek Enterprise - 15 minerals mentioned
Star Trek - TOS era - 28 minerals mentioned
Some of the TOS minerals were
Cast Rodinium
Alternate name for rodinium. Episode: Balance of Terror (TOS), 1966
Diburinium
A metallic substance of high density used by the Kelvin. Episode: By Any Other Name
(TOS), 1968
Lithium Crystal
This mineral was required to fuel the early generations of warp drive engines, prior to the
discovery of dilithium. Lithium crystals were laboriously processed at lithium cracking stations
such as the one on Delta Vega. Lithium crystal was also used as a synonym for dilithium on one
of the very first episodes. Episodes: Where No Man Has Gone Before (TOS), 1966, Mudd’s
Women (TOS), 1966
Magnesite-Nitron
Produced in tablet form, this mixture can create heat and illumination when crushed. While
magnesite is the name of a real mineral (magnesium carbonate) and nitron is a synonym for
nitrogen or the trade name of a type of fertilizer, the qualities ascribed to this substance preclude
it being a mixture of the two real substances. Episode: Friday’s Child (TOS), 1967
The remaining resources will be picked up from a separate list of 240 resources that I have covering all Star Trek eras but I need to separate the resources from this list for the TOS period or prior to it.

The Fesarians are now added to the mod....... I created the picture below to show what a battle with them would look like.
the Fesarians are known as First Federation and were seen in the Corbamite Maneuver in first season of TOS.
The First Federation are a political and military organization located in the Alpha Quadrant, located on my map above somewhere to the right of Breen space....took a while to find their system location.
The Fesarians can be a force to reckon with as seen in the Corbamite Maneuver and were around in the 23rd and 24th centuries.
