Here is a bit of trivia: The patent for the landing gear that retracts straight back (as used on the P-40, F4U, and F6F) was owned by an aircraft manufacturer that only put it in one prototype aircraft that never went to production. What was the manufacturer and what was the prototype?

Stevo, I know you love this stuff.

Patent US2,065,146A, to Roy Morse, Lysle Wood, Dec. 22, 1936, assignee Boeing Co,. The seminal patent for longitudinal plane landing gear retraction with 90 degree oleo strut rotation. Used on many aircraft. Vought paid royalties to Boeing for use on its planes.

Aw .. c'mon dude. I know it wasn't a 327, but the 308 short block wasn't all that bad. I know you guys down under are caring and sharing and save the earth kinda folks, and don't like big bore monster cars. But gosh; back in the 70s, you could take your Holden to Don Garlits' speed shop in Ocala, FL, and get her a turbocharger, like in Mad Max, and maybe get her ported for some Nitro in the fuel mix. The 308 was not a bad motor. Bun-bun likes it; thinks it has possibilities. So long as it can outrun what the police are chasing him with
