will be following with great interest. Could you throw in some zoomed out shots from time to time for the over all situation.

Damned couriers!

Post by AlessandroD »

Thanks Budd, I will try to give a better overall situation, anyhow if you ever miss there is this beautiful map that cover all battleground.

Everything gone well but the most important movement, Burnside's 2nd Brigade units don't moved at all and my early pressure on Buck Hill has been delayed, nothing so important anyhow.

Explanation: we have selected "End of Turn Activation Failure" option therefore even if you move your troops around the map they can still failure their activation check and you don't know it until the next PBEM turn!
I really like this feature because remove the player total control and can expose your position to enemy counterattack [:)]

If you look closely this is almost the same movement made the previous turn, there is a Confederate flag close a victory hex therefore he's waiting me!

P.S: Budd this is the max zoom possible, but I will include the mini map for a better understanding.

Keyes' brigade deploy in front of the 4th South Carolina, I splitted a couple of units and they lost 0.25 morale in the process, a lot for my troops!
One of them end exactly adjacent the enemy, it won't be good for it, anyhow next turn we will have some action [:)]
Lynchburg battery is perfectly placed to hit my units on the road.

At Blackburn's Ford my troops are exploring the terrain, we can see several Confederate units and a cavarly recon in the lower left of the screenshot.

Yes, if you look post 21 there is the 1st Massachusetts selected:
every "+" is a hex that you can see (in this case a lot because I'm in a more high terrain)
every "+" circled is a hex that I can see and fire (weapons range)

Losses at 10:20 am

Post by AlessandroD »

After made my turn this afternoon the game crashed when I hit End Turn!
I don't know why, maybe because I spent a lot of time before finish the turn and something wrong happened (the real time for the game was about 20-30 min because I played during spare time and the game was open in background).
The losses were 31 USA and 11 CSA.

When I reloaded the game the losses were different, I tryed to interrupt and reload several times and every time the outcome was different, maybe should be addressed to avoid possible bad exploitation.

Of course my last reload was worst than before.

Back to the game my losses has been 29 against 4, that's fine given that I'm attacking a unit in abatis behind a creek supported by artillery.

2nd Maine left battalion suffered the most casualties, about 25 men lost (4th SC close volley) but it crossed the creek anyway well supported by his brigade.
I used "Urge Unit" command but no morale recovered, maybe are necessary more MP unspent to be efficient.

No pressure at the moment.

We found the Confederate defence line, it seems well placed on the hills.
Anyhow the units of the 2nd Brigade are trying to envelope the other 4th SC battalion.

I think this is the same unit spotted the previous turn, anyhow is still in range of my infantry unit on the hill, but bad luck with MPs I think is an inf unit that is trying to hold the CSA VH.

After so heavy losses the enemy unit give up the position but not in good order, I think it is routed.
The 3rd Connecticut is in a perfect postion for a charge!

The other bridade units are in the line waiting the enemy reinforcements, 7th and 8th GA regiments.
Overall the Keyes attack on the Stone Bridge has been successful, in an hour the rest of the division will be able to move.
