Ain't that the truth

There's not much to it really. When you get a new world, either by conquest or colonization, all your freighter routes are reviewed so that they get redirected to the closer world. If a world is destroyed, then all its freighter routes go with it.

Andrew,
I found that out painfully clearly last night, not once but twice. I hadn't gotten to making colonies yet, how can you make colonies with all those dang aliens attacking constantly, and then all of a sudden I get this message that Vega1 is in battle in the Vega system and I'm going I don't have ship named Vega1. I pop up on the star view and see that the old Terek colony of Vega has magically become mine as the rebels rebel. Only one fly in the ointment, the dang Malchicks are attacking with about 4 or 5 ships. So I scurry my ships off to the Vega system but the Malchicks have destroyed the colony and taken off for Vela, where they used the wormhole to travel from their space which is far away. I managed to catch one of their scouts before it disappeared down the wormhole and destroyed it. It took a whole bunch of my existing freighter routes off the map, but the consolation was I could reestablish most of the freighter routes with much better freighters.

Then late last night I figured I was getting tired and should stop and watch some tube before cathcing some zzz's. I had been warned of a raid on earth but I somehow was too tired and braindead to think staright and wantd to keep getting a little further along. So I send out 3 cruisers from sol to beat up some pirates raiding one of my systems and next thing I know all my freighter routes are toast and so is sol. Oops, now it's time to go to bed and come back tomorrow with the saved game file.:p

Well I tried going back into my game today. I reloaded my saved game and sure enough all my ships were hanging out guarding sol so I just left them there. The first time through the Kimshaars (that was the big race I knew too little about) had their scout hail me and demand $1,000 to stop attacking me. Foolishly proud me decided to duke it out rather than pay peace money. I got my butt whipped pretty thoroughly but I managed to kill one of it's cruisers. Funny that little scout seemed tougher to kill than one of their cruisers. A second run through brought the Kimshaars in but this time they didn't offer any deal and just went after me. Again I managed to kill a cruiser, but not their pesky little scout. I lost 3 cruisers and 4 frigates, well one of the frigates didn't count for much since it was busy repairing and didn't come out to fight. While I had a close numerical parity in ships I was definitely outclassed in capability. It was a bitter pill to swallow not being able to see what their ships were sporting after always being able to see every other race's ship loadouts.

I guess now it's time to learn how to play nice with the AI aliens so that I get some allies and possible federation build ups. I also have to learn to do colonies earlier on in the game. Plus I need to figure out what those blue machine guns of death were. I saw some little green darts that tickle and I always laughed when I saw someone shooting at me with those. Well back to the proverbial drawing board.
