To the left, a Windows 7 box running an automated ME crash test (hosting a Linux virtual web server running in the background). To the right, in the shadows, a Windows XP box and a Windows 7 laptop also running automated ME crash tests. In the center, my primary Windows 7 dev system (facing), and my primary Linux workstation (from the rear).

What, no W98 machine ? How can you get anything done ?

lol. I recently replaced my broke XP with a new W7, but still have my W98 machine which I use daily. My third, an XP, doesn't work so good so it sits neglected in the corner. Thanks for posting the cool screenshots of the awesome workstation, and Cheers to the coming soon new release !

Keep in mind, the scenario for that AAR won't be available until the 1.01 release.

Otherwise, we still haven't received the installer from Matrix/Slitherine. Hopefully early next week.

I see the AAR now, looks promising with a lot of burning wrecks [:D]

Well, the point is have it if is in 1.00 or 1.01 is not a great problem and well being a tournament scen you allways can create your own scen.

I have very few of my old floppies, they fall in the mother of all battles... mother VS cleaning "dudecave" even the He-Man and GI-Joe elite units fall in combat, one minute of silence for them sure are now in a better place or not

In the end i only have an old copy of a football manager (soccer in the other side) and practically nothing more because all my wargames come in CDs in 90s... but i remember a friend pass me a game in 20 floppies, i dont remember what name because one of the floppies was damage... and you sure know what was the problematic [:@]

More glimpses behind the curtain, a series of recent posts in the dev forum:
ORIGINAL: berto

The good news: Hot off the presses, I have successfully ftp downloaded the CampaignSeriesMiddleEast-SetupRelease-v100.exe.

The bad news: I can't do anything with it without a serial # -- which I don't have yet.

Stumped for now, until I get a functioning serial #.

ORIGINAL: berto

Never mind. Found the serial #. Game installation is proceeding...

Now to see if it works, now to commence the testing...
ORIGINAL: berto

First cschkinstall.pl results are in and ... looking good! I will post results later [here] at the dev forum.

Now running csdifdir.pl.

Haven't actually tried running the game yet.

Still testing...
ORIGINAL: berto

cschkinstall.pl results...

...

Robert@roberto ~/cslint
$ egrep -i "error" cschkinstall.20150918.out

No errors!

A good number of "mtime difference" warnings:

These are

[*]bits and pieces that Matrix added in the installer
[*]else earlier warnings, all of them innocuous

In other words, the cschkinstall.pl results are looking good!

Now the csdifdir.pl results...

Robert@roberto ~/cslint
$ ./csdifdir.pl "/cygdrive/f/Games/Matrix Games/Middle East/middle_east 20150906pm" "/cygdrive/c/Games/Matrix Games/Campaign Series Middle East" 2>&1 > csdifdir.out

matrixgames.ico added
readme.doc added
registeryourgame.url added
serialreg.txt added
uninstall/irimg1.bmp added
uninstall/irimg1.jpg added
uninstall/uninstall.dat added
uninstall/uninstall.xml added
update.dat added
update.exe added
whatsnew.pdf added
_isdel.exe differs
dxsetup.exe differs
jsgme.exe differs
manual/sumatrapdf.exe differs
me.exe differs
meedit.exe differs
memap.exe differs
meorg.exe differs
middle east.exe differs
tools/jsgme/jsgme.exe differs
tools/jtcs_unitviewer/jtcs_unitviewer.exe differs

Apart from the expected game EXE diffs, and diffs in some of the auxiliary EXEs, the above all appear to be Matrix installer additions.

I would conclude:

[*]no, or no significant, deliberate or accidental file deletions
[*]apparently legitimate installer file additions
[*]the earlier "mtime difference" that cschkinstall.pl reports are all innocuous, because csdifdir.pl indicates the files are in fact the same (apart from different modification times, and no report of any checksum diffs, other than expected ones for EXEs)

So far, so good!

Clicking on "Game Manual" does in fact successfully launch the PDF viewer and display the game Manual.

Clicking on "Play Game" does indeed start up the Middle East.exe frontend launcher:

Okay, so far, so good, so very very good.

But we're not done vetting this quite yet.

Building on the vetting and play testing we've done over the past several weeks, we still require

[*]Repeating the full suite of automated crash tests (Crossroads, berto).
[*]Jason doing his show-and-tell's.
[*]A last round of play testing.

Let's do it!

Is it too soon to start the formal 10, 9, 8, 7, ... countdown?

With a side-long glance at Mr. Murphy, the himself, why yes, I would say it's still a bit too soon.

But closing in on this, oh so very close!

Modern war is not my favourite theater of war, however I feel attracted by CS:ME. Quality games are a must-have. Sooner or later I´ll get it. [:)]

Anyway, hope to live enough to see a different theather: CS: Pre WWII. [:D]

I have launched my csttrun automated crash test suite, this time on Windows 8.1. (We had previously tested under Windows XP, 7 & 10, but not yet 8.1.) I'll let this run night & day to completion over the next 2-3 days.

After 14 scenarios tested, no freezes or crashes.

Interesting mod! Will it work with JTCS 2.02? The campaign series is so flexible and can work perfectly in any theater. Guess I´m not the only one who wish to taste different periods in history: Napoleonic, WWI, Renaissance, Medieval (why not?), ancient world, colonial wars, spanish civil war... In some way the campaign series are like history books: You learn and enjoy playing [:)]

WW I titles are definitively on our wish list too. Lesse here, in no particular order:

[*] "American Civil War"
[*] "Cold War Conflicts", (other historical conflicts outside KR and VN)
[*] "Korea"
[*] "Napoleonic Wars"
[*] "Vietnam"
[*] "WW I Eastern Front"
[*] "WW I Western Front"
[*] "WW II Eastern Front"
[*] "WW II West Front" (Med and North Africa also included, for those who's not familiar with it)
[*] "WW II Pacific Front"

Anything I might have missed? Oh yes:

[*] "Campaign Series Goes Medieval"

Seems like we've got our work cut out in front of us [X(]

I am not sure of the WW I mod if it ever saw the daylight?

edit: better put them in alphabetical order and in parenthesis before you start quoting on me on official names and release schedules

edit2: Spanish Civil War as such is somewhat covered in JTCS West Front, for its OoBs begin from 1/1930. There's at least a few scenarios available, remember playing them in a big tourny that went on at the Blitz for a couple of years, where all scenarios covering the whole period were played. It was quite epic...

Ha!

I can now report 30 scenarios completed with 100% success rate. Those were the smaller ones, so this gets slower and slower towards the biggies.

We should have pretty high confidence that everything should work the same as it has over the past three weeks. Since the official installer version is, except for the added M/S installer bits & pieces, essentially identical to Jason's very last middle_east_GM_20150906_PM install (which itself is identical in the important parts to the 20150831 GM install that all of you have been testing).

If no reported (new) problems since 20150831, we shouldn't expect to see any over the next several days.

But, you never know -- Mr. Murphy knows -- so we still need to check it all out, exercise the usual due diligence.

It does get tiresome, though. I'm getting pretty sick of All QA All the Time. I'm getting worn out anxiously awaiting to see if
