Am I the only one that never writes anything down? [:)]
No, but as I get older I'm starting to think maybe I should.

Sorry, you are wrong. Now I'm talking from a stock scenario one game. The CM Hatsutaka crries 30 type93 mines. If converted to the E-class she carries 20 type93. From my experience CM's that convert will continue to carry the same mine type that they had before conversion. Often with a smaller payload though. Here's one I like that carries the larger (or at least more effective) type93 mine, the Yaeyama. She carries 60 type93 mines both before and after conversion from CM to E.

OK, so it's one of the bigger ones. I haven't dealt with mines in a while in my Japan game. Haven't needed to.

I don't use Tracker or any other third party software. I don't keep excel or word documents.

I don't either, but...
but I don't keep the piece of paper.

if I don't its gone. Memory just isn't there anymore. Now the trick is making time to put all those pieces of paper into a coherent document.[:D]

I used to use a piece of paper where I would keep track of things over the short term between turns. I got sick of desk clutter. So now I use Word for that. I rarely go back more than a few days, although I have searched backwards for reference later - similar to using SIGINT, but it's my own notes on combat.

I'm going to be painting a whiteboard area above my desk in the near future, I think. Then I'll start using that instead of Word for my turn-to-turn reminders. Or I might mount my monitors on the wall, maybe, which would free up a lot of desk space to do a whiteboard there instead... we'll see.

I'm like Joc, I keep no notes.

I do have a little pinboard next to my PC that I use to pin post-its on if I have to remember something for a later turn, mostly when I've to leave a turn half-processed. A whiteboard would be even better in my view.

Note-taking is one of those double-edged swords for me. It's an amazingly powerful advantage if you can keep good notes of a game, but for me personally, it sucks the enjoyment right out of it. I'm here to fight the Pacific War, not be a staff officer for the Pacific War.

I can do them at the same time - I get an entire sentence fragment note typed in 2-3 seconds at most, which is about how long it takes the game client to skip the animation anyway [;)].

I do use tracker as Japan but never keep notes. Once I have my convoys set up, it is real easy to keep track of everything else. [:)]

The only thing I use tracker for is the Alert tab and to insure my resource pools growing. If they are not, I look in game to find out why. Typically expanded too fast too soon [:(]

I do have a giant excel spreadsheet that I created to kill off certain plane models when I first played as Japan (I've never played as the Allies). Now the only thing I do with it is track month over month engine pool changes and plane acceleration. Sine I do this once a month, it is very easy to maintain. I certainly do not care about daily/weekly changes. Besides as Japan none of this matters anyway [X(] (Spoiler Alert: You will lose no matter what you do [:)])

So why waste a lot of time detailing everything out when you could just be playing the game? Of course if you like that sort of thing ... [:)]

I do a lot of trending in excel on the IJ economy. Early in the game, I track daily; but by Mar 42 it is just monthly as things are on track by then.

I create a detailed plan for each game that I compare the trends to.

I don't take notes per se. As several have pointed out, once I get going things are pretty straightforward.

I need notes to remember things.[:D] In addition to mines...

TOE upgrades
Ship upgrades...can be very confusing
Plane upgrades
Production Plane plans - pdu off
To do lists
Japanese Funnies...mine laying subs, midget carrying subs, kaiten eligible subs and cruisers, ship conversions, etc, etc.
Sqdrns that upgrade to NF and how they do it...

Now I chopped off the top part that has all the index tabs for section groups etc....

How is the Kaiten used? Do you crane it over the side to operate like a mini-sub, or launch it like a torpedo and hope the pilot can hang on?

A kaiten, to the best of my knowledge, functions just like a torpedo with different modifiers and effects.
