I am also experiencing lock ups on my new 8 core beast running Win7.
Been mostly playing AE on my old slow dog machine due to the frustration of getting 2/3's of the way through a turn resolution only to lose the time to a lock up.
My lock ups only happen during turn resolution, never while issuing orders.
Yes, it only goes to 4. On an 8 core you can still set the processor to any of the first 4.
I spoke too soon. Did it again, and again it was when I was setting LCU opmodes in the LCU list?
Just a thought - maybe it's not AE. Maybe it's some other software that's running in the background. Maybe it's your hard drive having fits.
I was coming to that conclusion but I doubt it as I can click and do anything else on the machine except click or use the k/b in the game. It's a new computer and I sincerely hope the drive is not having fits as I might join it, as that's the reason I have a new one.
If it's a new computer, most computer makers load up their machines with junk-ware, some of which can eat up a lot of computing power. You can run Task Manager to see what is taking up CPU time. You can start Task Manager by clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del and selecting Task Manager from the screen that pops up. On the Processes tab, you can then for to View->Select Columns and set a check by CPU and CPU Time. This will show you what programs are taking the most CPU power. The game will show up as running one processor core all the time (for example if you have a quad core machine, and the game is running, it will show 25 in the CPU column), but anything else that shows a lot of CPU time or has flurries of high CPU % activity, that could be what's slowing the game down to nothing.
There is always the chance a virus is running in the background too. Some viruses are good at hiding from virus scanners.
