and paste same file to windows\sysytem32 folder as well, both are needed...
with both being done, the game won't work and is needed, it's the only thing that's needed to make fully windows 10 compatible and it's a successful windows 10 work around, from a vista and others fix / solution

Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 26100) (26100.ge_release.240331-1435) 24H2
game works out of the box with no alterations other than whats shown above and works full screen with my default of 1920x1080 in windows 10 home or pro, with nothing else needed, everything that comes with the game is all that's needed (with a minor file for dxr 7), just follow install instructions above..
alt tab isn't supported in game and will or could cause error's once or if used in game as shown, tried all version of compatibility mode to remove this and none worked so just used standard windows 10 settings shown

Yes : Ctrl + Esc causes errors also, ( in both Vista and Win 7 ).
Noted to date ( on both ) :
1. This causes problems with Trade ( Buys and Sales ), that are linked to the games Trade Limit Function.
2. This causes problems with Unit Selection and Deployment, on the Pre Battle Deployment Screen.
3. This causes visual problems in the actual Battles, re the Unit and Greek Fire Graphics, and the ( Mouse ) Pointer.
However, there is a simple solution re 1. and 2. : Press the Ctrl key after you restore the game !!!
[ NB : If you forget to apply the solution after you restore the game ; the Trade Screen problem and the Pre Battle Deployment Screen problem, can still both be solved, by pressing the Ctrl key, as and when you realise the error. Possible exception : if used during an actual Battle... ]
Re 3. : There is no apparent solution. Therefore, do NOT use Ctrl + Esc whilst in an actual Battle * !
[ * : The use of Ctrl + Esc and then Ctrl again, other than in an actual Battle, does NOT create the in Battle Graphics errors. These only occur if Ctrl + Esc is used during an actual Battle ! ]
Just an FYI for anyone having issues getting Spartan to execute after installing Spartan: Gates of Troy. I installed and tested Spartan first and then Installed and tested Spartan: Gates of Troy and didn't notice until later that Spartan was not working any longer. I tried reinstalling Spartan on to different hard drives, with different permissions, and different folders. Nothing changed anything. After you do a vanilla install of Spartan you'll get the missing D3drm.dll file. First, make sure that file is in the main Spartan directory. Second, right-click on the Spartan.exe file and make sure it launches with administrator permissions. If you then click the Spartan.exe it will try to launch for a few seconds in the Start bar, but then it closes and nothing happens. I could not get the original Spartan execute to launch but the Spartan: Gates of Troy.exe works fine. If you launch the Gates of Troy you'll then notice scenarios 4-12 are the original Spartan scenarios and without the first game installed those will NOT be present. If you uninstall Spartan: Gates of Troy, Spartan will then work again (may have to reinstall Spartan once Gates of Troy has been removed.) I am not sure why this is the case, as I have never seen such a thing before. I am using Windows 10 64 bit, updated to it's latest patch.
