This all relates to the Guadalcanal scenario.
At the beginning of the game, go to Brisbane, do "Form New TF". Make 2 task
forces one for transport, one for amphibious. Make sure the ships in them
have troop capacity.
Then go to several of the ground forces and change them from combat to
strategic.
Go through a few game days to ensure the troops have had time to pack/change
for strategic move.
Now, at each task force, click on "load troops". Except for some planes,
see how many of the available troops can be loaded -- either as combat in
the amphibious, or onto the transports from the ones you switched to
strategic.
What I found was that hardly any are on the load troop list. So they seem
to just be stuck there for the remainder of the scenario.

The same thing holds for Noumea, though you have to wait a little until you
have enough ships there capable of handling troops.

Recently purchased the game.

Started playing Guadacanal.

Cannot load troops onto transports. Have tried combinations of combat and strategic move -- and transport and amphibious.
Tried docked and not docked.
At the most it gives me a list of planes to load.

HOW DO I LOAD THE ADDITIONAL TROOPS?

I suspect these troops are restricted. The key point however is that if a screenshot of them was supplied it would be far easier to tell what the problem is - otherwise you will get vague guesses and generate a lot of replies before you get the right 'guess' that gives you the answer.

Best wishes

Roger
This screen shows us something that many of have tried to do when we don't have enough troop capacity. A typical regiment would require one or two xAP's and one or two xAK's (2 - 4 ships) depending on their size. Instead of the 12 ships listed above. Many times when I've tried to do this, no matter how many xAK's are used there is a fraction of the LCU that still wouldn't load without at least one XAP in the mix.

Not sure what screen shot I should send.

Has anyone tried doing what I said, to see if they have the same problem? That way we will know if I have a defective copy, or it is part of the game.

As an experimental scientist, I like to see if I can reproduce the problem:

I had a look and in that scenario at the start at Brisbane most units are restricted so these cannot be loaded on ships.
If you click on the groudforce icon on the base you get a list with this layout:

(name 0f unit) (name of commanding unit its attached to) (R) > rest of info. The (R) stands for restricted.

to left, top of this screen has (all units) in green and this is clickable to show all options, better read up on those in the manual^^.

Best way to see whats in a scenario fast is click ground units, top of map screen and you have the same options available as in
ground units list per base. In Gualadalcanal at start there are not many available and most are already on ships.

Point is that command units are designated as restricted, in this case Australia command. Most cases this is for balancing the game.

Better read the manual, but for a sketchy overview:

"Restricted" means restricted in area of operations which in turn means it cannot move by ship nor can it be flown by aircraft to a base that is not part of the same command.

Some units are permanently restricted, indicated by having their HQ name in white text.
Most units are "temporary" restricted, indicated by clickable yellow hypertext for the HQ name.

You can change the unit to an unrestricted HQ if you click on the HQ name and then from the list of HQs that pops up, choose the HQ you want to assign it to
You must pay Political Points to complete the transfer - the losing Generals hate having units transferred out of their fiefdom.

Beware - Political Points are very scarce and precious - you only get 50 a day and you could use 10 times that. You must consider carefully which units you will free up to send to the front. This is the start of the planning inherent in the game. Don't forget to change the preparation target for the units you plan to use at the front (see lower right side of LCU screen).

In the Guadalcanal scenario, All units that start in Noumea and Brisbane are restricted. You can not load them on ships until you
change their command to an unrestricted one.
