Your #1 infers that only the grunts do the dying no officers were mentioned by you. Which implies officers sent the grunts to die.

Your looking at this through skewed glasses. Why disdain for some officers doing their designated job? Some die on the battle field others have to give orders and not be in battle.

As to your point. The act of enlisting or being drafted the bottom line is. It takes courage when one knows their life could be on the line. There is nothing phony about that. Veterans day honors these men and women's choice to serve and protect. imperfect as human beings are and their motives does not take away from that. Thus your words are inappropriate in this post to honor their sacrifice.

Re-posting this one for 2016 as I think it is a good one and I know we have a lot of folks in our community who were in the armed forces. Thank you to all our veterans and those in active service today, both here and in freedom-loving countries around the world. As a first generation American whose family were displaced persons in the US zone after WW2, I can say that my family would not even be here in the USA without you. We remember that and cherish the liberty that America and her allies have defended for so many years and the sacrifices made to preserve freedom around the world.

Great post, Erik. Kudos to our veterans and the people who don't forget them.

Yes, thank you. I don't even consider myself a vet having served in the army from 82-86, and spending half that time as a speed bump for the russians while in germany.

Well, you are. Thank you, sir.
