RE: Game is very slow

Post by baloo7777 »

I still play this game...but I count the time between each ordinary move including infantry and tanks, and it is about 5-10 seconds on each move on average. I am a home studio recording amateur, and my 2013 Samsung laptop with an i7 16GB RAM and an SSD can handle a lot of processing power. While I agree that Win 10 background programs running is a problem, disabling them if you don't know what you're doing is ill-advised. There are many, many games and programs that manage to run without the slowness displayed by TOTH. The game is great, but it has a serious problem for many in how it runs.

Hello Baloo,

Sorry, but MSConfig is a default Windows service, and as long as you are not disabling any Windows services then this is in fact harmless to the computer, and in fact beneficial if anything. Most programs which install on a computer, especially non-game programs, install background processes and MSConfig is a safe and quick way to disable all of these and speed up your computer with one easy step. Provided you are following the instructions provided and not disabling Windows processes then there is no damage caused. Also the process is the very easily reversible as you can just re-enable any processes.

With some parts of the computer, e.g. the registry, then yes it is extremely ill-advised to start changing things if you do not know what you are doing, but in terms of the startup processes on Windows this only stops things from starting at startup. There are other options within MSConfig, such as Services, which does affect active services, but again hiding the Windows services will stop you from disabling key Windows process.

OK, I completely reinstalled Win 10. Then I loaded MS Office and iCloud. Nothing else. I then installed TotH, updated it and then ran the save file, that I backed up to a removable drive. I go to move the same unit that I have been testing with and I get the same lag. Latest dxdiag attached.

TOTH slow because:

1-programmes non-windows---->User (clean it)
2-services windows---------->Windows (deconnect internet from the box)
3-last patch---------------->Peter works on it

I'm wrong???

Today I did a little experiment. I ran Razer Cortex, boosted, and then the game. I then brought up the scenario (006-Lastekodumagi)(human Soviet v Computer german) save that I've been having problems with and played it. I could tell it was going to lag as the screen (map area) went white as the scenario loaded. Once up, I tried to move units and got he same terrible lag before the move was executed. I then closed the scenario.

I then started the same scenario but as a new game. This time I turned FoW off. I played the scenario up to the same point in the previous one (Soviet Turn 2 movement segment). The game played fine, no lag.

So:

1. Can the FoW setting have anything to do with this issue?

2. Could my first playing of the scenario got corrupted somehow?

The scenario saves are in the attached zip file.

Lastekodumagi.sav is the original save. It lags
Lastekodumagi-New.sav is the same playing as above but saved under a different name just to see if it changes. It lags
Lastekodumagi_test.sav is the replay of the scenario from start after reinstalling Windows 10 etc. It works fine.

I can only load the "lastekodumagi_test.sav" the other two crashes my game once I load them.
It looks like they are corrupted, but only the developer can tell for sure.

Well, somehow those early two got corrupted on my previous install of the game. The only change I did was swap out graphics and settled on the VASL graphic and played with that one. Could that have caused an issue?

Same issue here...
Playing with no problems until the second day on the Bled White scenario. Maybe too many units, and too many calculations to do?
I'm running it with a HP laptop i5 5200U CPU RAM:8Gb with W10 clean install.

Yep, you are correct. We are looking into optimizations but it will take some time.
